    Should I Fix This Leak?

I could use a second opinion on identifying the source of this leak.

I am sure it is the front main seal and possibly the timing cover gasket.

Either way, they both would get replaced at the same time.

The only strange thing is that the oil is accumulating on the oil pan bolts on both sides in the circled areas (I wiped them clean, but take my word for it).

The arrow points to a wet spot I see on the timing cover behind the pulley.

Perhaps the fan is blowing the drips to either side?

The second question is whether or not I should bother fixing this.

Nothing drips on the ground yet, but it isn't enjoyable knowing it leaks.

If a slow weep is okay here, does anybody recommend letting it go?

What would you do in my shoes?

And I'll add, no oil is coming down the back of the timing gear cover or anywhere up top.

As far as I can see, the only source is behind the crank pulley.

Just my two cents, but if it's only a little leak, not dropping the oil level or anything, don't lose any sleep over it.

As to where it's coming from, I don't know, but it's a Cummins, so I expect it to leak a little oil, LOL.

It looks like the front main seal is leaking.

If it’s not dripping on the ground and your oil level is acceptable, I would keep on trucking but keep an eye on it for sure.

Can you tell if it’s maybe coming from above that?

From what I can tell, everything above the crank is dry.

Some light mist surrounds the crank pulley, but it is all below the centerline.

The timing cover is dry all around except the bottom, so you're probably right about it being from the seal.

Re: Should I Fix This Leak?

Just curious; I've never blown out a front seal on these trucks.

    What's your setup?
