I Found This Lying In The Bottom Of My Trans Pan!

    Hello all.

    2012 2500 with the 68RFE in it.

Have it in the garage for a regular trans filter swap out, and when I removed the pan, I found a tiny part of something.

It does not look like it is chewed up, just this little golden disk lying at the bottom of the pan.

I haven't had any issues with the trans, but parts laying g in the pan are never good.

Can someone help identify this thing?

    I'm curious if it's a magnet.

Not sure what the slot is for, though.

    It appears to be brass.

This is the pan before it got wiped out after about 60,000 miles.

    It looks fine to me.

    Kinda confused here.

The piece is not a magnet but is magnetic, so it is steel.

I think it may have like a cadmium coating or something on it.

Did you check the valve body for any missing pieces when the pan was dropped?

I did every piece that was there, and all screws were tight.

I tried looking in between the valve body to see if anything was a miss but nothing.

That side plate on there is straight as an arrow.

Everything looks like it is in place.

Inside that pan and on the body, everything is clean and shiny.

The fluid is bright red and smells the same as the new fluid in the bottle.

I think you're right! Crisis averted.

That makes sense, too; with the spot in the pan, I found it.

It was lying under where the spin-on filter was.

    Thats good news.

That thing is not going back in there.

I don't trust it anymore, haha.

    Get a new dipstick.

The rubber plug can separate and get stuck in the dipstick tube.
