2013 RAM 2500 Cummins 6.7L - Low Power?

My friend has a 2013 2500, saying it won’t pass an old lady with a walker while towing his horse trailer.

I will head his way next week and see if I can help.

I have no background other than it’s a stock rig with auto, and I’m looking for advice on what to look for.

I’m wondering if his fuel bypass is popping/worn out.

Any other ideas?

The first thing that comes to mind is the actuator on the turbo.

What are his symptoms, other than lacking power?

Are there any codes or CEL on currently?

How many miles are on the rig?

If it is stock, my eyes would be on the turbo or the EGR not working correctly.

The best bet, get a scan tool on the OBD2 port, check for codes, and look at actual vs. desired on the vane position for the actuator.

It sounds like it's sticking, let's say it's stuck 50% closed, and your exhaust brake is stuck being engaged 50% regardless of how much throttle you give her.

Check the fuel filter for water\debris, which could also give a lack of power and bad MPG.
