Exhaust Brake Kicking In And Out During Warm Up

I have a 2017 6.7 Cummins tuned with GDP tunes with an Ats Aurora 3000.

When I first installed the turbo, the exhaust brake usually worked during cold temps.

About five months later, it is kicking in and out now that it’s getting cooler.

Engine rpm’s are not affected when it happens, so I don’t think it has anything to do with fueling, as I’ve read on several others.

Any ideas about what it could be?

    Thank you.

Can I run with my back pressure sensor unplugged?

It doesn’t cause any codes, and the brake seems to work normally when it’s unplugged.

It makes me wonder if your EBP sensor is bad or if it usually works when unplugged.

Or if it could be an actuator symptom.

The actuator seems to be working well, and the turbo is pretty much new and only has 6000 on it, so I don’t think it would be that.

Just not sure if it would hurt to run it like this.

Yes, on 2013 and newer trucks, the exhaust back pressure sensor can be removed because the ECM doesn’t mind losing its input.

Curious? Tonight after work, i turned on the exhaust brake at idle. The gauge displayed 36-37 psia. And the typical back pressure at idle without EB is appx 14.6 psia.
Turbo vane position is 97-99% closed with EB on at idle.

I leave my exhaust brake on all the time. When the outside temperature is less than 40*F and engine is not up to normal operating temperature it’s normal to see the turbo vane position 97-99% closed at idle. Not sure what gauge you are referring to (36-37). The exhaust back pressure will increase as the turbo vanes close.

Clarification: exhaust back pressure is 36-37 psia when EB is on at idle. 14-16 psia at idle and EB off.
