Re: My Cabin Property On 40 Acres

OK, we have storm covers for the window, but not security type.

I have been thinking about building covers that would act as a security device, plus storm covers.

It needed to be super easy to remove and close up.

After a year or 2 of thought, I concluded I would use barrel hinges for pins to slide the cover on and lock it.

1.5" angle iron for cabin mount, 1.25" angle iron setting over the top, and 1/5" expanded metal over the top.

Painted frame to match cabin, covered in satin black.

    I have six windows.

All frames are completed; four are finished 100% and painted.

I ran out of expanded metal, so I am picking up a new 4X8 sheet on Saturday.

So this weekend, it should all be done.

Canceled Kubota run, doing window covers, adding an electric heater in the cabin (Cadet 220V) and a sub-panel at the well to be able to run another power set up to another campsite; this is the full 50/30/20A plugs, 50A being 220V.

We do have moose, white tail, and mule deer. Loads of turkey, grouse, wolves, bear, grizzly (rare to see one which I am thankful).

I can hear the grouse drumming in April.

It sounds like an old single cylinder tractor trying to start.

Corkster, headed up in April 2025, let me know if you want to stop by and get the Mule tour.

Be around 3rd week, roads there are usually free of snow and ice by then, just deer on the move only road hazard.

    Installing window security/storm covers.

Changing RV panel inside well enclosure.

I'll be there a full week.

    Stop by.

OK, I ordered a wooden CNC machined sign for my place; go on the cabin porch.

Keeping with park and forest service themes.

The main entrance sign is on its way.

Go by the front gate; I may get a smaller version for the back gate, too.

Re: My Cabin Property On 40 Acres

I am working on building a custom firefighting trailer to protect my infrastructure in the event of a close fire.

It should be a 300-gallon tote mounted to a custom-built trailer pulled by my Kawasaki Mule, have a pump on the back, and have a 1" forestry hose in a reel.

    The pump will be gas-powered.

I already have all the axle parts, springs, shackles, perches for the tube, and the tote in a cage.

I will build my axle, which is a custom width.

We will have 14 or 15 tires and fenders, but it is not road legal; I don't want to have it inspected; it's for on the property only, maybe a reflective triangle on the back for local trips on the county road.

    Like this.

    That’s an awesome idea.

Another thought is to build a rack for fire rakes and a powerful leaf blower.

A leaf blower is an excellent tool to make a quick fast fire lines.

Re: My Cabin Property On 40 Acres

I do have a nice commercial backpack Stihl blower that stays over there.

I have rakes and loads of other hand tools but no actual "fire rakes."

I can make a rack to hang all these tools.

    Great ideas.

This will be my first one; usually, if you think of other items to add later, I'd like to get it all dialed on the first time.

I will put this trailer in the back of my enclosed trailer and the tote in the bed of my truck.

Corskster, man, which I would have known that.

I finally got one for free.

It was brand new but full of motor oil, but it is empty now and well-drained.

It may still have a qts or two left in it, I will need to get it all cleared out.

    If your totes food-grade stuff?

    Like hauling potable water.
