    Fuel Leak From No Where!

I drove home from work at 12:30 am, got out of the truck, and smelt diesel.

I looked under the truck and my entire undercarriage is soaked with diesel. Fuel system is entirely stock.

I checked filters real quick and it wasn't them.

I peeked under the bed, and it appeared to be leaking from above the tank.

The truck is a 19 with 50k and never had any issues seems odd out of nowhere, and it wasn't leaking earlier in the day; I sat all day while I was at work.

Has Anyone seen a leak or heard of a leak like this?

It's late/early, so I will mess with it in the morning; it was flowing pretty good at a steady drip.

    Fuel Leak From No Where!

I can't stop thinking about it, mainly cause I have a trip this weekend and need it for towing on Thursday, so I went back outside and peaked.

With a telescoping mirror I was able to see it spraying off the top of the fuel sending unit area.

I can't tell if it's a line or the sender.

    I'd assume a line.

Which brings me to my question is it easier to drop the tank or pull the bed off?

On my 2nd Gen, I would pull the bed, but I would just set it on the ground, not something I want to do with this truck and risk damaging the bed.

    Any insight?

Sorry, I can't help with a suggestion, but if it were me, I'd probably pull the bed if I had an extra hand or 2.

If the tank is more than half full I'd definitely pull the bed.

I hope it's a simple fix, whichever route you go, and you can quickly get her back on the road.

    Agree with Power on this.

It is easier to pull the bed and work on the tank than to drop a tank over half full.

It's right at the half tank, but I have no one to help me pick it up or set it on to prevent damage.

Re: Fuel Leak From No Where!

Well I pulled the drove shaft to get access to to of tank, was able to stick.my head up there with it running (sorta sketchy) saw it coming from the return line on top of the sender. So I got a floor jack some wood and a ratchet strap and dropped the tank.

So I found a nest of fuzz and cactus on top of the tank and a small hole chewed in the return line right before it gets to the sender.

The line doesn't look bad to replace as it runs the frame rail to about the bell housing area where it had a other fitting.

I need to call local dealer and see availability, but in off chance how would I "ghetto" rig this. I was thinking cut the plastic line off where it is crimped to metal line and run a rubber fuel hose with hose clamps to top of fuel sender?

I called the dealer and ordered the line 100$ and will be here tomorrow.

This leaves me Wednesday to put it back together before Thursday when I need it

Pleased to hear you found the problem.

Your Bush Fix should be good. l would try to find some good quality fuel hose though.

Never mind I just noticed in your last post you have the OEM line coming.

    Glad you found the issue.

    Do you have any pics?

Using a rubber line would be okay, and glad to see they can get you the part pretty quick.
