I want to pick up a good scan tool, and I am not familiar with who offers the best for the money.
I have a 2020 2500 Cummins; it is my primary concern.
What do you guys think?

AlfaOBD is my pick for scanning codes, coding modules, etc.
AlfaOBD is excellent, but in 2018, you need a bypass cable to get around the gateway ECU.
Autel MX808, a great tool, gets into bi-directional, i.e., it can command active test (great for installing a new turbo actuator), but you can do that with Alfa to the MS906BT; I had both; I just sold my 808 for $100 to a good pal.
Check Amazon for Autel, report back here, and I'll let you know if it's a good one or to pass.

I'm bumping this thread as there might be some Black Friday deals.
I am contemplating getting a scan tool for 2018 RAM 2500.
Also, I would use it for the 2023 Ford Explorer and 2012 Hyundai.
My question is, should one have an automotive background to use one, or are they somewhat self-intuitive?
I saw the Autel 906 or 808BT mentioned and AlphaOBD.
Currently, I only have Apple devices, but I am running Windows parallel on an older Mac.

Do what I did.
Get the Autel MS906BT; its an Android-based scanner.
Then, also get AlfaOBD on your Autel.
It's what I did; now that scanner can do anything.
Save your time researching; I've done it all.
The MS906BT will do engine, body, ABS, SRS, and anything your truck's systems can throw at it.
ADDED: The MS906BT is bi-directional, so not only can you check all systems, but you can even command them with the active test, write compensation codes for the older Cummins injectors, and perform the sweep when installing a new turbo or turbo actuator.
With AlfaOBD on the scanner, boom, two massive, powerful scan tools in one unit.
I did have to buy the EZ Lynk to connect the Autel to the truck via Bluetooth.
The Autel portion of the scanner already is Bluetooth.
Such a nice, too.
I do a health check on mine occasionally, a full scan of all systems; it's nice to see the "all clear."

Thanks for the lowdown.
I've been shopping for a while, I can tell you its exhausting, LOL.
I keep going between that Autel unit and the Launch X431 Pro3s.
The way it sounds, you have done similar comparisons.
The issue is that I have a bunch of VAG/Audi stuff as well.
I would like it to work with all.
I didn't realize you could pair the AlphaOBD app to the Autel that has to be a huge advantage.
