2016 CTD - Fan Running All The Time?

My 2016 CTD fan runs constantly.

Whether I have the ac on or off, the truck is just started or at operating temperature.

    It’s loud and annoying.

This is the new engine, so I don’t know if it was something the dealer didn’t get installed correctly or what.

Wondering how much everyone else’s fans kick on?

I can't get the video to upload.

    Any suggestions?

See attached information for troubleshooting and regular operation of the engine cooling fan.

Your fan will turn or freewheel when the engine is running, but not fast enough to be loud until the engine temperature is around 220 *F and the PCM commands the fan on.

You may have a wiring problem with the viscous fan clutch, or the fan clutch is always engaged.

Have you scanned for trouble codes?

If you find any codes, please post them, and I will send you the troubleshooting information.

The dealership has scanned every time I go in for service because I complain about it.

    I will see if I can’t troubleshoot.

The truck can be cold started, and I take off almost immediately, and it’s on.

It turns on rarely when driving.

You should be able to easily turn the fan by hand with the engine off and key off.

    Please keep us posted.

It can turn, but it sure is stiff; it’s not easy to turn.

I can turn it with one hand, but it doesn’t turn easily.

    Sorry for the late response.

It sounds like the fan clutch is full-time engaged 24\7.

Some people wind up doing away with it and going with dual electric fans hooked to a switch.

Or get a new clutch fan assembly.

Agree; it sounds like the clutch is stuck engaged.

You should be able to rotate the fan with one finger easily.

There will be a slight drag, so it probably won’t spin or freewheel.
