    Texas Vehicle Inspection?

I apologize in advance for this type of post/question.

The problem with using the search function is that these concerns cover an ever-changing issue.

Moving to a county in Texas (El Paso) that does smog checks on vehicles.

Texas does not require smog for diesel, from what I understand.

However, the Texas Department of Motor Vehicle website lists criteria for inspections on all vehicles, regardless of fuel type.

Does anybody have issues with vehicle inspections there recently?

Specifically, the visual inspection or even an OBD check if it happened.

I know tons of trucks run deleted in Texas, but I considered putting mine back to stock.

I would have to wait for my household goods to arrive from Hawaii.

My plates expire soon, so I am trying to get as much info as possible and hopefully keep the little time I have on my side.

    Thanks for any info.

    Re: Texas Vehicle Inspection?

Houston also requires gas vehicles to do emissions testing, but not diesels.

You do not need to put your smog crap back on for the safety inspection in Texas.

It’s just a safety inspection, no emissions or OBD engine check.

    I live in El Paso.

Diesels are not required to do smog testing.

    Only safety inspection.

    Costs around $20.

It has been deleted since 2016.

Not once have they mentioned anything to me about the exhaust.

    Have a recommended shop?

I like places I can build relationships with and have other work done if needed.

Edit: You can PM the reply as well.

If you mean a diesel mechanic shop, not really.

I have done all the work to my truck myself and with the help of a friend.

I have heard good things about one shop, but they mainly work on Ford.

What type of work are you planning?

The counties that require emission inspections in TX do not check diesels.

I have not heard of anyone being turned away for having a deleted truck.

    Its just a safety inspection.

Well, it was just in case I needed other work done like repairs or even something like a lift kit.

I do a lot of my work as time allows.

I will have no time here due to my job and future aspirations.

This response is to work I’d like to complete in the future.

    Oh, shoot!

    Window tint.

Are they super strict on that?

I can’t remember my front ones, but they are pretty dark.

Not 5 but possibly 15 ish.

That depends on where you go.

Most big-name places check for tint, and they will fail the inspection.

I get my inspection done at Lube N' go, and although I don't have dark tint, I have never seen them test the tint.

I'm unsure if they automatically know my tint will pass or if they don't check.

I'm due for an inspection this month.

I'll ask when they check for tint.
