    Any Machinist In Here?

    Got a craftsman/atlas commercial 101.

In almost perfect condition at an estate sale.

I have a question about the taper attachment. I think I’m missing pieces.

I also want a quick tool post, but I don’t know much about this stuff.

The lathe will only be used for machine-transmission reaction plates and pumps.

    Any Machinist In Here??

Just a little background and introduction, l was a Tool and Die Maker apprentice in the UK in 1967.

I worked as a machinist on a US Government contract from 1973 to 1977. I am retired and haven’t done any machinist work in the last 45 years.

Congratulations on your lathe look like you have lots of attachments and are in great shape.

Unfortunately, I am unfamiliar with the Atlas but have used several other makes and models. I did a little check on the internet and found this video (part #1 of 2) that may help answer your question on the taper attachment.

Also found this photo of the Atlas taper attachment and parts on eBay.

    Oh wow.

    Thanks!

I saw that listing on eBay; I’m missing the middle crossbar.

I’ll probably never cut a taper, but it would be nice to have a complete kit just in case.

From what I’ve read, this was the last of the best lathes produced by atlas/craftsmen, but it was also a short production run for this model.

I have been searching for an excellent, decent, priced south bend for a while.

I don’t think that combination exists, LOL.

This was just too good of a deal to pass up.

No nicks or wear on the bed it has a coolant/cutting oil pump setup, and it’s wired for single phase 220.

The only thing worn on it is the belts.

They only wanted $500 for it.

Needless to say, you got one heck of a great deal!

If you ever decide to sell it, let me know, and I will drive down and pick it up.

I may want to rethink that with the current fuel price.
