UPDATE: I think I found what pins I need to get this done.

    https://nexelec.com/SUMITOMO-82400288/

    https://nexelec.com/SUMITOMO-82400287/

Of course I found them much cheaper and did NOT buy 200 of them.

Used those links because they had photos of the connector.

So I was able to source this part catalog from Sumitomo, the manufacture of the plug.

    https://prd.sws.co.jp/components/ser...ponents_je.pdf

Reference the actual connector on page 37 ------ F?6189-6987)

Notice on page 33 the terminals are shown, notice 8240-0288 and 8240-0287 are both female terminals and both are .5mm^2, that converts to 20 AWD

One appears to be tin coated and the other gold.

There appears to be a slight design difference as well.

I went and purchase 10 each, incase I mess up the crimp and it costs me $35.00 shipped.

I know it sucks, but better than spending hundreds for a new harness.

    In Need Of Wiring Help!

I just finished building a wire harness for a cargo camera install pinned to the factory radio. Power comes from another connector under the driver's side c-pillar.

What I learned when searching for the correct pins is this:

    - Many websites do not sell pins or connectors in small quantities.
    - Most of this stuff comes from China so make sure that the website you order from has products that will ship from the USA or you will be waiting forever for your order to come from overseas.

The two places I found that have what I needed and will deal in smaller quantities are Jameco Electronics and Mouser Electronics.

I’ve ordered from both and got my parts fairly quickly shipped to Colorado.

Another place I found TE.com will ship you free samples and they ship these on their dime.

    They also came fairly quickly.

Might be helpful if you don’t know exactly what you need.

Most connectors on newer trucks can be de-pinned using those cheap mini screwdrivers like the ones in the link below.

Look on the pin side of the plug (opposite side of the plug from where the wires come out).

There may be a small square or rectangular hole next to each pin. Insert a very small screwdriver into that hole and press, hopefully, you feel some resistance, and then the screwdriver will push in.

While holding the screwdriver in, try to pull the pin out.

Don’t force it, if it doesn’t come out easy, reposition and try again.

You probably already figured this out but you’ll also likely need an open barrel crimper for those pins.

I got this one and works well for 20 - 24 awg pins.

Re: In Need Of Wiring Help!

    Final update, fellas!

After hunting down all of the equipment and materials necessary to bring my truck's transmission back to life, the job is complete and working as it should with zero chance of installation error.

Was this an "instant knockout"? NO, t is was a two-round bout fight.

My first attempt at fixing it failed; why, garbage 20 gauge wire.

In short, if you are doing any wiring where voltage regularity, pinning a plug rigid but flexible and needing chemical and heat resistance, stick SXL, GXL, TXL, GPT, TWP, mil-spec, and HDT rated wire for automotive use.

The insulation and quality of wire that comes with wire with this designation signifies quality and should get you on the right track.

Also, if you work on the type of connector I have pictured above, you will see the small violet/red silicone weather seals going down into each pin.

I would not recommend re-using these, as any form of "trauma" takes its toll, and they rip easily.

I purchased my wire from here; it was nice because I needed three colors and did not want to buy 100 feet of 20 gauge wire.

You can buy it here in 5-foot lengths.

This is the link for the proper silicon wire seal.

This is the reference material I used to find out everything specific I needed for my connector, but hundreds of different connectors are listed.

    https://www.tti.com/content/dam/ttii...og-11-2018.pdf

I hope this helps somebody out there, but I am proud to report this was a success.

Quest was the only company I could find that sold these micro parts in small quantity.

3-4 websites I sourced only allowed you to purchase hundreds or thousands at a time.

I even considered buying a new plug, thinking the pins/insulators, etc., would be included. NOPE!

You only get the blank plug, LOL!

Before I sourced the catalog above, I tried contacting Sumimoto directly to discuss a runaround!

Do you know how many industries Sumimoto is tied to globally? Hundreds!

I called all over North America, and they either did not answer, returned my call after leaving a voicemail, or just re-directed me to someone who had no idea what I was talking about.

Huge shout-out to everyone that took the time to give me some advice on here and assist in me getting this done.
