    18" To 20" Wheel Swap

    I had a 2010 Dodge with 20" rims.

I bought two different sets of after-market rims.

I still have one set in storage.

My 2019 Dodge 2500 Big Horn has 18" rims. I think my 20" rims will fit the 2019.

The question is, how do I reprogram my speedometer for the 20" rims.

Can any mechanic shop do it, or will I have to go back to my dealer?

The tire size will affect the speedometer, not the wheel size.

Did you change the size in tire as well?

The current tire size is 275/70R/18. what can I use in a 20" tire that will not affect the speedometer?

I'd say a 275/60/20 would be pretty close.

285/60 R20 came stock on my '19 and would also be very close.

I found a friendly website that allows you to compare sizes.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc...0r18-275-60r20.

It allows you to change sizes to mess around and get the right fit.

The 20 in that size is around a half percent smaller than the 18 and almost negligible to the speedometer.

Just a thought, but if you are budget-minded like me, the 18" tires are much cheaper and ride better.

I have factory 20s and am considering going to 18s for cost savings in the long run.

Are you even really buying truck tires if they don't cost you north of $1200?

Look at the difference on Tirerack. 275/70r18E Cooper Disc at3 $288.

Same tire for my truck 285/65r20E $410.

That's $500 a set give or take if you live in a state with sales tax.

Adds up after a few sets.

It would give me a bit more for other truck mods

    Yea, I was completely kidding.

Spending well over $1000 on tires is pretty lame, but how does it go with bigger tires.

I'm fortunate enough to get half off on Generals, so it makes it hurt a little less to burn up mud tires in 30k miles.
