Thread: BD Iron Horn Vs 2nd Gen Swap?

  1. Top Of Page | #11

Re: BD Iron Horn Vs 2nd Gen Swap?

I’m close to pulling the trigger, and I keep going towards the 2G swap because it’s “what you do,” but I’m not sure I’d ever get my truck to 800hp, so do I need it?

Then I think about wanting to upgrade all the pipes, Intake and exhaust manifolds, the rest of the deletes, etc.

So does it make more sense to go 2G or go with the 3G and save some money?

What kind of power would we be looking at going 3G with exhaust and intake manifolds, fleece fuel system, and stock injectors?

Oh, and at least head studs and probably exhaust manifold studs.

I want decent power, and I want it pretty under the hood.

Pretty sure 550hp is the top on-stock fuel no matter how much air you throw at it.

I could get some 33% overs (maybe just nozzles and save some $$) and get to 650hp.

At that point, you might be close to maxing out the stock CP3 but don't quote me on that part.

The drag time calculators are not the most accurate thing but according to them and the mph to weight and et, it's making over 600 on stock fuel with a little meth.

I plan on dynoing it this summer.

My friend has 2g S366SXE 1.0 on his 6.7L, and it feels good.

if you want some extra power and cooling with the setup, you choose you could go with a methanol kit.
Do you think water-meth really gets you well over 50+ hp on stock fuel?

Genuine question, I know exactly 0 about water-meth.

    Truck looks like it rips!

I’m pretty sure with a 10mm CP3 and stock fuel you can hit 650.

I mean maybe, but who ever said anything about a 10mm CP3?

Not sure I'd consider that "stock fuel" either though.

Also not sure if just a CP3 upgrade is going to net you more power, especially +100hp, without injectors/nozzles.

I've looked at videos on meth and diesels and there's really no new data for them all old stuff and no dyno results. but going off of gasoline/ethanol fuel comparison's

when it get nice out I want to do some of my own dyno testing with meth mixtures and see how it does with my truck

I'll record some vids with my dragy and compare times and egts with meth and no meth

here's a old video from 10 years ago talking about how it works on diesels

At what point should I be thinking about doing valve springs and push rods?

I’m thinking about ordering some while I have the valve cover off for the head studs.

Still leaning towards the IH s366 but haven’t pulled the trigger yet.

I would love to see actual ET’s vs. weight and Lbs/Min airflow from guys claiming 500 + on stock fuel.

I know it’s not an accurate way of gauging hp, but it’s more accurate than any dyno I’ve seen for diesel trucks.

Draggy are not accurate. I’m talking actual time slips from a track.
