    Blue Smoke At Idle?

Has anyone experienced excessive blue smoke at idle upon startup when the truck is cold?

Sometimes the engine will knock and miss if running on 3 cylinders and eventually clear up.

This happens randomly like it will do it one morning but not the next.

Sometimes it will go into high idle, and the engine will sound smooth but will have a blue haze from the exhaust.

    It's weird; it won't do it if it's -20°C, usually around 0° to 10°C.

I have a 2015 RAM 3500 6.7L Cummins fully deleted with RaceME Ultra basic tunes.

The truck has 168,000km but has been an ongoing issue for a while now.

    Blue Smoke At Idle?

I haven't experienced any of these symptoms. However the blue smoke is apparently acceptable (see thread below).

The knock and miss is not good, unless maybe you are starting without any pre-heat.

Normal for a cold start on the exhaust.

Did you delete the grid heater also?

That would explain the rough idling in cold weather.

The grid heater is still on the truck and functioning.

I recently took the intake manifold off to clean it and turned the key on to ensure the grid heater is functioning correctly.

Could you post a video to share of what it’s doing on a cold start?

    Re: Blue Smoke At Idle?

Mine does the blueish smoke when it’s really cold out, the truck has been sitting at least a day, and it isn’t plugged in.

It just does the blue on initial startup, though.

I don’t notice it at idle.

Here is a video I took this morning.

The truck was parked all night in -12°C (10°F) and not plugged in.

I cycled the intake heater twice and it fired right up with barely any smoke.

After running for about 1 minute you could hear the engine start to sound rough and that's when the smoke starts coming out.

You can really see it in the video once it goes into high idle.

Last night when I left work I started it under the same conditions and it smoked way worse.

I shut the truck off and returned the truck to stock.

I then started it back up and there was no smoke and it ran fine.

There are obvious emissions related codes because I returned to stock but it ran smooth.

This morning however, as you can tell from the video it didn't change anything.

    Thanks for posting.

Curious, does the exhaust smell like unburnt fuel?

    Injector issue?

Veins in the turbo sticking maybe?

Hopefully, someone else will chime in that’s had this issue.
