Not sure why the VGT actual is 0%, and the desired is 5% and doesn’t change; the ECM should be commanding 90 to 100% with the exhaust brake on and engaged.

Also, the fact that with tuning the exhaust brake and VGT both work great, then an hour later, it stops working.

I must admit this problem has me stumped also.

The smoking and rough idle could be fuel-related.

If I think of anything useful, I will chime in.

I tried removing the battery cables and held them together for 2 hours to try and simulate the same scenario as writing the ecu with the tuner but it didn't change anything and my VGT actuator is still not functioning.

Thank you for your input and I will update this forum if I find anything else interesting.

You said you rebuilt your turbo and installed a new actuator.

Do you think maybe something wasn’t put together exactly right causing the veins to stick and not work correctly?

Chaffed wiring on the harness causing intermittent signal?

It worked well for about a week and then quit.

I feel like it should be working, but the ECU is telling it not to for some reason.

I returned the truck to stock, then back to tuned, and it started working until I shut the truck off and drove it again.

Also, when it's reprogramming the ECU near the end, you can hear the VGT cycle, but when I start it, you can not listen to its cycle, and it doesn't work.

One thing I've noticed is key on not running the rail pressure actual reading on the raceme ultra is fluctuating rapidly from 37psi and then 64,000psi.

Also, when I start it, you can see the "Max" pressure was 64,000.

I would believe my rail sensor is no good, but it drives the actual and desired change accordingly when you start it.

Also, I had someone watch the VGT position, boost, and turbo speed on the RaceME as I wiggled all the wiring associated with the turbo/ actuator, and nothing changed.

I even tried running it and wiggled everything, and nothing changed.

Are your tune box tunes or custom?

    Who tuned it for you?

    I’m wondering if it’s a tuning-related issue?

I don't have any custom tunes.

It's the same if I use the box tunes or the real-time tunes.

I updated the tuner with the most recent software this morning but didn't change anything.

I have had this tuner for over 2 years, and it hasn't given me too many issues.

Just mainly the past couple of weeks, it's been bad.

    Re: Blue Smoke At Idle?

I thought I would update this thread with what I have found.

I removed the VGT actuator and tried to recalibrate it and noticed the gear would shake but not rotate.

I then tested the 2 data pins and found about 12 Mega ohms of resistance when there should be 120 ohms.

I then contacted Cummins because that's who I bought the reman actuator from, and they said they wouldn't cover the warranty because my truck was deleted.

Does anyone know what could've caused the failure?

I can rotate the actuator on the turbo side, moving freely.

Guess I'll buy a fixed turbo instead of another actuator and risk having this happen again.

Since your turbo appears to be okay, I recommend installing a City Diesel Actuator.

No calibration is required, and stronger motor torque.

I think I am just going to get rid of the VGT turbo all together and get a fixed turbo.

Not a bad choice either if you don’t need the exhaust brake.

    Maybe something like this?

Hi guys here is a video I took this morning.

I feel that the rail pressure sensor is faulty but let me know what you guys think.

    I have no codes.

You can hear how bad my truck idles once I cold start it.

I am wondering if this is causing my rough idle and smoking issue.
