    AAT Sensor Nightmare

So this all started one day after having my block heater plugged in.

The next day the temperature read 156°, and never really varied from there for a couple of weeks.

I reset the negative terminals off, and it went to -40.

I’ve gone through two ambient air temp sensors, still reading -40.

I installed new mirrors with ambient air temp sensors, and it still reads -40.

Can somebody kindergarten me through how to troubleshoot this?

    TIA

The AAT Sensor is connected to the driver’s side door module.

    See attached diagram.

The best place to start would be to to verify the circuit continuity between the sensor and the module.

    How so?

Ironically, I’m an electrician who owns my shop sucks at motors and controls and 1 line diagrams.

    I swear I’m a decent Covid electrician.

This is a simple circuit between the AAT sensor connector in the mirror arm and the C2 connector at the driver's side door module.

Locate these connections and disconnect them.

Make a note of what the AAT is reading when the circuit is disconnected.

Take your ohm meter and check for continuity (0 or very low resistance) between pin 1 on the disconnected AAT sensor connector and pin 5 at the disconnected C2 connector (AAT Signal wire).

Also, check between either pin to ground should see high resistance (OL).

Next, do the same for pin 2 on the AAT connector to pin 3 of C2 at the driver's side door module.

Resistance to ground should be 0 Ohms (AAT Sensor Ground).

If your circuit and AAT sensor are both good, you may have a problem with the door module itself.

    Re: AAT Sensor Nightmare

I tested everything in the cold rain, and it seems fine.

    What’s the next troubleshooting step?

    Gotta love the PNW.

Okay, you have tested and verified the circuit between the AAT sensor and the driver-side door module.

You have installed different door modules and a new AAT sensor.

So now our troubleshooting path starts to get fuzzy and confusing; the code that you received P0070 (attached) directly contradicts the previous information given and shows the AAT sensor going to pins 21 & 22 on the C4/D plug in the BCM on the left side of the dash (See attached).

Based on this information, the best advice I can give you would be to follow the troubleshooting steps listed in P0070 and see if these wires and pins 22 G31 VT/LG and 23 G 931 VT/BR are present.

If this circuit can be verified and all tests are good, then the BCM is suspected.

The door module I got off eBay was garbage, and I’m sure.

    My front windows wouldn’t work.

When I swapped back to the original door module, it worked perfectly.

So I think I may buy another door module with power mirrors and see what happens.

    Hopefully, that fixes both problems.

If not, I’ll move on to the next step.

    Re: AAT Sensor Nightmare

As I previously stated in my post #7 the troubleshooting gets a little fuzzy between the Driver Side Door Module and the Body Control Module.

Also see the attached diagram of Power Mirrors vs Non Power Mirrors.

If you have power mirrors the AAT signal goes to the Drivers Side Door Module, but if you have the non-power mirrors it goes to the BCM.

So before replacing the BCM you will need to verify that your AAT sensor actually goes to the BCM on C4/D pins 22 and 23.

See information above on the BCM location and connectors in my post #7.
