    Third Brake Light Out

It seems like I have been experiencing a lot of electrical fun this winter.

I got light out a message on my cluster a little bit ago, and I noticed my 3rd brake light is out.

I thought it was a bulb or water since the 4th gens are prone to leaking, but everything looked fine.

Inside was bone dry and clean, and the bulb looked new.

I flopped the bulb with a new GTR led from headlight revolution (specifically made to not cause the can system to freak out) and still nothing.

I noticed the light-out message isn't on my cluster either.

    Does anyone have this issue?

I should note that my cargo lamp lights work fine, and my taillights are ok too.

Did you put a test light on it to see if you have power to the socket?

I can only think of checking fuses and chase wiring to see if a mouse got a hold of it.

Also, on some LEDs, if the bulb doesn’t work, turn it 180 degrees to see if that works.

I was afraid of that, LOL.

I'm hoping it's a fuse, but I'm assuming it's fused with the taillights, and those work fine so that I may be stuck poking wires.

I'll check the voltage across all of them to be sure, though.

I love the luxury features of these things, but I hate all the wires and computers.

    I hear you!

Why can’t things be simple as the older trucks?

The diagram for my 2014/3500 shows that the center-mounted stop lamp's power comes directly from the body control module pin 39 to pin 4.

If your grounds test well, l would check pin 39 for voltage when the brake pedal is depressed.

If you have voltage, you will need to disconnect and ohm out the wire from 39 to 4.

There is a connector for pin 3 in the headliner.

I hope this helps, and your 2017/2500 may differ in wire colors.

See attached pictures for help locating and identifying pin 39 on the 6C/F connector of the BCM.

Thank you so much for taking the time to dig this up.

I went out and put inward pressure on the cab harness with a bit of technical jiggling.

    Bam, my light works now!

Maybe a loose pin that walked out?

I'm just relieved I don't need to start chasing wires.
