    2018 RAM 2500 - Oil Change

I was getting ready to do my oil change and wondering if yall filled your oil filters up with oil before installing them?

I bought the screw-on rubber cap so it doesn't mess while taking out the old one.

Since I figured since I had that, I thought I could fill the filter up with oil before installing, or is this even necessary.

I fill mine up 3/4 and install.

Filling it completely causes a mess trying to tilt it in unless you have one of those plugs.

Agree, I have one of those plugs but still don’t fill the filter past 3/4 full.

    Re: oil change

I at least get the filter 1/2 full (a couple times) or a bit more - then screw on the filter cap - then slide it in through the fender well.

I do put a oil diaper down below the filter (In the kinda lower pocket) to catch any drips - normally there is not!

Note: I do take her on the highway and get the oil up to at least operating temp (195-205*F) - then bring her back home and drain the oil pan with the Fumoto.

I then wait about 2-3 hours before removing the oil filter - normally at this point it's only about 3/4 full & there will be no oil running down the side of the filter once removing the filter is started & no drips after the filter is removed.

I like a totally mess free / easy oil change & I got it ---> Plus gives me time to relax in the garage & drink a few cold beers & listen to some good music.

I fill mine full so the filter can absorb most of it, then I fill it up again and just stick my finger in the hole so none of it runs out.

Quick and easy, you'll get the hang of it the more times you do it.
