    Shop Lift?

So I’m looking at getting a two-post lift for my shop.

I was thinking about getting a 10k lift, but if a 9k lift would handle my truck, I could save $1,000.

How much are all of you weighing these days?

I have a Mega Cab and haven’t ever weighed it.

Bone stock other than motor mods.

    Was I guessing it’s close to 8000?

    Thanks

If you spend that much, pay the extra 1k and get the 10k lift.

My 3500 weighs around 9,500 lbs, but I’ve got a few accessories added to my truck.

I have a 9000# 2 post lift that I put in about 20 years ago, and it handles my Mega Cab just fine.

I guess it depends on how much you plan on using it.

Mine is just for personal use and doesn't get used every day.

    Shop Lift?

Curb weight on a fully equipped 2018 mega cab dually is 7200lbs.

I'd look into arm's length between the two.

The 9k lift will be plenty, but the 10k might have longer arms which are excellent on long-wheelbase trucks.

    I'm at 8,000 lbs on a scale.

    3500 single axle CCSB.

Full tank of fuel and just me in it.

That said, I'd go with the 10k.

I have a 9k lift, and it lifts my 13 CC fine, but to be honest, I am nervous and would feel a little better with the 10k.

I put tall stands under it front and rear to keep it from moving when it's in the air.

When I was at the dump, I recall my weight being 8600lbs with my cap on.

I mean, you're standing under 9000 pounds on a lift made in China bolted to the floor.

    What could go wrong?

That thought goes thru my head every time I'm under my truck.

    I have an Atlas lift.

I try to keep my lift arms as short as possible by positioning the truck perfectly.

I've had it up with the arms extended and to see them bend is scary as hell.

I got a 10k bendpak that’s right at 15yrs old, and I have taxed it a couple of times with my 01 3500 dually with a 12’ flatbed.

I’ve also had the 21 upon it; I always use tripod stands under everything when up in the air, whether for an oil change or more in-depth service.

    Better safe than sorry.

I would get the heaviest capacity lift I could afford.

Most times, mine is lifting 3-4k cars, though.

As a tech by trade for 40 years, if you go two posts above ground, get the asymmetrical arms, i.e., the front shorter; this puts the post in front of the driver's door, or far enough, you can open it.

Also, you want the overhead equalizer, so nothing on the floor, i.e., a hump of a hole with a plate over it, smooth flat concrete, tranny jacks roll nice.

You want 12-foot ceilings; ten is too short.

Use 6" reinforced concrete where it will reside and toss a few strips of rebar under it.

A hoist will be anchored in place with 3/4" diameter concrete anchors.

    Re: Shop Lift?

I went with an 11k lift and installed it myself.

Got a decent deal on it over the summer.

13.5’ ceiling, the lift is right at 12’ tall.

It gets the job done pretty well for anything I throw on it.
