Gearing Issue Or Tranny Issue - While Towing?

    Hey guys.

    Got a 2016 RAM 3500 with 58,000 miles.

All stock right now with the 68RFE tranny with 3.42 gearing 35-inch tires.

When I’m towing decently heavy. 20,000 24,000. On the back roads where I live with lots of hills, the truck seems to struggle on the hills.

It doesn’t feel like the trans slipping.

It feels like you are in 3rd gear trying to go up a hill when you are really in 1st.

Trans temp never got over 172 while towing also.

I will be doing a full delete soon, just getting everything together.

If that is going to make a difference.

Is this a gearing issue with 3.42. ? Would putting in 3.73 make this thing better for towing.

    thanks, everyone

With your taller tires and high gear ratio, you are putting a lot of stress on your transmission.

This link has a lot of good information.
