    Help! Electronic Throttle Control?

Hey, guys, I have a 2020 Cummins that’s been deleted, and after a thousand-mile trip while driving, the truck went to idle and won’t rev up, the check engine light is on, and the, etc., light is on.

We took a pedal out of another 2020 Cummins and plugged it in, and it still wouldn’t work.

We have checked all the simple plugs and wires and can’t find anything.

Does anyone have any ideas on fixing this without taking it to a dealer?

    Bump.

Well, I thought I had this problem nipped in the bud, but it’s back again this year.

The code I’m getting is P06D3.

    I have no throttle response.

Does anyone know a step-by-step diagnosis that I could perform on this?

I guess a wire or sensor is getting wet because it’s always in the snow or if you take it through a car wash, but it’s very hit or miss and hasn’t done it for close to a year.

    Thanks!

    You are welcome.

I have attached the wiring diagrams for the F856 5V reference circuit, which should also help.

Please remember that this information is for my 2014, so wire colors and circuit design may differ from your 2020.

If you need wiring diagrams for your vehicle, I highly recommend Mitchell1 DYI for a very reasonable price on a one-vehicle subscription.

Well went to go do some diagnostic and peddle worked perfectly fine with no check engine light or codes on the RaceME Ultra but scared to drive it anywhere and get stranded.

I had a similar issue with my truck when I deleted it.

The ETC shares ground and power wires with other sensors.

So it could be a few different things.

I would start with the APP 2 wire.

It is the BN/VT wire; that was my issue.

When I deleted my truck, I removed everything.

    Wire harness included.

I had the same type of code.

It was directly related to the exhaust differential pressure sensor being removed, so I'd also check yours out.

They are known to fail, and if it goes bad you will get an ETC issue.

I wired mine back in, and the problem was solved for me.

It shares the same APP 2 wire run as the ETC.

Then I'd move to the soot pressure sensor.

It's likely one of those or 3rd in line a ground.

That is my opinion on it.

GOOD LUCK; let us know what happens.

That sounds like a good plan; thank you!

I'm a millwright by trade and more mechanically inclined than electrically.

These things have made me want to trade it in for an old first-gen that I can work on .

I'm probably going to drive it to work in the morning because we're supposed to get about a foot of snow and see if I can recreate the problem and hopefully not get stranded.

It usually happens when you shut the truck off and let it sit overnight, but it has happened while driving.

I'm not going to tell you how long it took me to get to that conclusion.

    HAHAHAHA

    Same boat as you.

    Electronics are not my thing.

The PCM's 5V reference (F856) is intermittently pulled to the ground.

When it’s grounded, the 5V goes away and sets the code.

While this happens, you need to disconnect each sensor (one at a time) that uses this reference to see which one is pulling the 5V to the ground.

The issue could also be in the harness that goes between the sensors.

If the issue is in the harness, you should check for any visible damage to the harness, especially in areas where there is heat and or vibration.
