    Cleaning Turbo

I was just wondering how often you should clean it and what you use to clean it with I heard people spraying oven cleaner in it.

I would like some professional advice.

    Re: Cleaning Turbo

I only know to keep a Clean Air Filter in place at all times & to keep the Air Box also clean - I put a fine mesh screen over both inlets to keep out the larger debris.

I also run my engine brake on Full - when traveling down (Interstates or Highways). = Keep the soot from building up on the vanes and locking them in place.

Probably most importantly - I will keep my PCV filter serviced every 40K miles.

My Common Sense tells me - 2 more things are probably relevant in other ways.
    1. Using a Very High-Quality HDEO with a well thought/planned out OCI.
    2. Running a Very Efficient & Effective Fuel Filtering System - and a quality Diesel Additive to aid in a more Efficient (Cleaner) Combustion. (Most of us Know) - Diesel is a Filthy Combustible Fuel. - Yes, there are (Couple) High-Quality Diesel Fuel Additives that are effective in doing this!

Take Note: This is only my opinion!

I have never heard of cleaning the turbo with a liquid or aerosol cleaner - while the turbo is still intact - I would be afraid of damaging the bearings.

    Just my thoughts!

We just covered this in a recent thread.

Looking for that link now. . .
Unless of course it was on the 'other' cummins forum

    Re: Cleaning Turbo

I was throwing a code, and I can't remember which one, but saying needed to replace my turbo.

I took it off, took it apart, and used brake cleaner to clean it.

I probably should have gotten into one of these groups before taking it out.

I didn't realize you can clean it while still on the rig.
