Here's some pictures showing the differences between the highly regarded SKF throwout bearing and the new KOYO one included with the South Bend DD organic kit.
Overall the KOYO feels like a much precision bearing, smoother, tighter tolerances from gaps in construction and any play. The face surface is also considerably larger. Part Numbers; SKF N4070, KOYO CT52A-1

    Re: Major Clutch/Transmission Failure - 2008 Mega 3500 Laramie

I decided to change out the rear main while I was at that point.

It had a couple of droplets showing, nothing major but not worth waiting on.

Found a Timken locally for just over $23.

It was made in the USA.

Pretty simple; you need to be cautious about the extraction of the old one and take your time installing the new one.

The replacement comes as a kit with a plastic seal starter guide and a metal depth installation ring.

I drilled some small pilot holes and then used a couple of sheet metal screws to which I clamped some vice grips onto in conjuction with a prybar to work the seal out.

Caution needs to be taken not to score the sealing surface of the crankshaft.

Take your time, and place the pilot holes accordingly.

It's a Snug fit, and a slide hammer proved to be too much and just pulled the screws out.

You will have to work it side to side a couple of times to get it off.

Here are the two tools in the seal kit.

I pulled the plastic out and greased the seal lips along with the crank edges.

Clean the edge of the crank of any debris and be careful putting the plastic guide ring back in; it is a tight fit.

Before seal installation, take the steel install tool and check clearances.

Make sure it can slide over the crank and centers.

Some seal plates came out of the factory off-centered.

In this case, you will need to remove the adapter and do all that work.

If it's good, then slowly work the seal into place.

This takes some patience and almost three hands.

I used a small deadblow until it went below the adapter surface, then I switched to a 3/4" brass drift.

In this process, I had to clearance the ID of the tool due to some warping from the hammer to get it to go all the way to the seat.

Anyways, I hope this helps someone.

What is the benefit of adding the CV Boot?

    2015 Ram 3500 CCSB SRW 4x4 G56
    2020 Ram 2500 CCSB 4x4 68RFE

Never ending project. Always adding something...

I decided to drill out the blind hole and tap the transmission foot all the way through.

This way, I can put a larger-headed bolt with a hardened washer with a stover nut to hopefully keep this whole situation from happening again.

Supposedly it helps contain any oil leakage when adding the extra quart of oil when running a dual-disc clutch.
