    Injectors Maybe? Help!

    I have 2010 2500 Dodge RAM.

It had been losing coolant for a while before it finally gave out.

Long story short, replaced the head gasket, and the truck started and sounds great idles fine, revs fine, drove 22 miles to work and under light or heavy acceleration.

I am getting what I have found to be called diesel knock.

The truck never did it before, BUT I made the mistake of cleaning the nozzles with a brass wire wheel.

Do you think that is my issue?

I pulled injectors back out and removed nozzles, and cleaned with air and brake parts cleaner, and all the nozzle holes spray fine from what I can see, and yes, valve lash was correctly set at .010 and .026.

    Thanks.

Does the knock change or go away under load or raise the rpm?

For the cleaning, I've seen guys say put the nozzles in a bowl of diesel and let them sit, then use a toothbrush to scrub them.

It longer process but Crack the fuel lines at the head one at a time with the engine running; if the noise goes away, then you've found the issue it does make a little messy, or if you have a snap-on scanner, you can turn off one injector at a time.

Yes, the noise changes idle smooth revs smooth while parked and harder the load the louder it is, and it is not dependant on rpm load.

I got to pick up new copper washers and intake gasket tomorrow.

Put in a new fuel filter and drain bowl and refill with fresh fuel.

Recheck valve lash during reassembly and see what happens.

It was the worst feeling ever after tearing it all apart, then putting back together and hearing a noise.

I just wanted to let everyone know the problem is fixed.

I ended up finding on reassembly that must have put #6 injector hold down on backward and had sheared off alignment pin im guessing causing the injector to be off a little and feed tube not lining up.

Thank you midnight shift and no sleep but I replaced alignment pin with a piece of roll pin cut down from ace hardware reassembled and runs great

So I guess I'm lucky, and the wire wheel did not affect nozzles, and I didn't mess up the feed tube.

Also, I found the missing alignment pin with a magnet lying beside the valve.
