    Need Help With Turbo Diagnosis

I've been dealing with this for a long while.

I ALWAYS use EB on this truck.

It has been getting worse and worse.

The truck now won't even warm up with the EB.

I've been having lessened power and lower than regular boost numbers.

Also, the EB isn't consistent or as powerful as it was.

This video was taken while the truck was in high idle trying to get warm on Ray's 30 hp tune, which I usually run.

I'm just trying to decide if the problem is turbo or actuator.

The truck will eventually give up and go with a 90% or so (by sound) VGT position (while still showing 96%) which doesn't help with warm-ups, although it sounds like it would.

Sometimes the MM3 shows that the VGT is bouncing, and sometimes it doesn't show.

    It’s not building boost quickly?

What’s your max boost when heavy throttling?

I have manually turned off my actuator and can turn it back on whenever.

I might be able to compare what I notice without having an actuator.

    Sounds like an actuator issue.

It builds slowly, sometimes max at 24 or so 1800rpm to 26-27 with the rpm getting high like 3000 or so.

That is with stock fueling settings.

At a higher level, tuning boost climbs above 34 psi.

    That's what I figure.

I hate to put on an actuator and have a mechanical issue with the turbo.

Have you tried monitoring and comparing VGT actual vs desired?

If you are not seeing any trouble codes, you may have soot build up causing the turbo veins to stick or not move all the way.

They show the same which is what threw me off.

If I had soot build up I don't see how that would cause surging like that.

    You’re building good boost.

Just turbo lag due to actuator, I maybe wrong.

Does your exhaust sound like a 5.9L sometimes LOL?

Example: Actuator disabled takes a little while to build boost(lag) a little more smoky too even on revs with no load and will peak around 25psi on heavier throttle, but with actuator enabled functioning properly I’ll get quick boost going to the 30-35psi for sure.

Still boost used to be higher.

It is now slower than the ole 92 7.3 idi non-turbo.

Which is supposed to put out 185 hp.
