Pressure Vents Leaking Water

Glad to help in any way I can, I agree we have a great community here!

And even chained up his creeper to go in the snow for me.

Many forums out there with a gazillion members, and many dick swingers, too; this one is more like an extended family feel about it, and no dick swingers also.

OK, Saturday is here, weather is rugged (rain here), but if I get a long enough break in the rain, I will install the vents.

I will try to release the lower barbs by reaching under the flip seat, and if I can get it to snap out, then just clean the area off, snap in the new unit, and repeat for the other side.

New vents were installed, but I did have to remove my back seats.

It appears the pass side was leaking, but ever so slightly.

Just a little bit of dampness.

No wet carpets would fill the storage compartment on the pass side with a small amount of water.

My truck sets most of the winter, very little use, and sweat appears on the windshield.

I suspect the small amount of moisture from the small leak condensed on the cold glass.

I will keep wiping it down, and it should eventually disappear.

I will monitor it.

I have replaced my rear center high mount stop lamp (CMHSL), cab lamps (new OE units), and these pressure vents.

OK, any other areas for water leaks? Any improved parts, I'm just buying. I hate water leaks.

On vehicles with body computers and networking, moisture is a no no; lots of weird things can happen.

Not to mention not having to deal with the corrosive salt air.

I have dealt with three leaks on my truck: CHMSL, then cab baffles, and the latest was the cowl drains.

The area in front of the windshield drains on both sides.

It gets plugged up from debris and won't drain outside but starts draining inside.

I was able to find it by removing the inner fender liner, but it can be accessed and cleared by removing the plastic cowl cover in front of the windshield, far ends.

Look for standing water.

Put a rod through and break the clog open.

I've also had issues with those little holes up front and wondered if I should be drilling them out larger.

They get clogged with dust here as well.

The air in Hawaii wasn't as salty as you would think for some reason.

The real problem was the volcanic content in the air, which was terrible for keeping the vehicle clean.

You could spend two weeks washing, claying, polishing, sealing, and waxing the exterior, and it would still feel baby-smooth.

If you run your finger down the vehicle by the end of the week, it would feel rough.

I remember the truck getting sticky when we vacationed in Florida.

I never had that problem in HI.

El Paso has dust like nobody's business.

I have water leaking in on my carpet.

I got everything torn out yesterday, and the new vents don't fit between the cab and bed up from the bottom nor down from the top.

I noticed a plastic shield piece that covers the gap at the bottom.

Does it need to be removed to allow room for these vents to go up?

A small section on each side would fit between, but it's too tight between the cab and bed.

Anyone got any suggestions?

The vents insert from the inside of the truck.

I think that's what you're asking about, correct?

As in, you can't slide them between the exterior of the cab and bed?

I installed and removed mine from the interior.

I will try more to see if the new ones fit in the hole.

I could twist the old ones enough to pull them out, but the new ones aren’t as flexible.

IIRC.

From the inside of the truck unclip the vents and push them against the bed.

From there, force them towards the outside of the truck (laterally, away from centerline) and then down.

It'll take some force for the first 6 inches but after that they'll drop free.

Stick the new ones up from the bottom until they reach the same tight spot.

Then, push them towards the centerline with a yardstick between the bed and cab.

Once they get close to the hole, reach through the hole (from inside cab) and get them into position.

In essence, you're going around the outside of the plastic shield thing (between the bottom edge of the cab and the bed) that you see under there.

Mine was tight but no need to unbolt bed, etc.
