    Pressure Vents Leaking Water

2018 3500 started to develop an odd smell, almost like an old shag carpet, several days after some extreme rain here in Hawaii.

I discovered the rear floor was wet.

The dealership will be glad to look at it in February, so I will have to tackle this issue myself.

It is coming from the rear vents on the back of the cab.

What do we know about those things?

Can they be replaced without removing the bed?

Has anyone else had this issue?

I searched and found a similar topic, but it was about dust accumulation.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have never replaced one, but from what I have read elsewhere on the internet, the replacement is a new and improved design, and they can both be removed and replaced without removing the bed.

@Electrojake has a post about pressure vents on this forum, but I don't know if he has replaced them.

I had the same issue with mine.

I actually used silicone to hold mine in seems to be working so far been about a year ago was getting water in underseat storeage.

Seems like it could be replaced without removing bed though, definitely a smarter option

    Thanks for the responses!

Heading back to the house soon to get the carpet up and figure the vents out.

I have silicone sealant in a new tube, so I may run that for now.

I run various wires & airlines thru those vents. They are easy to access.

The vents are cheap plastic (with rubber flaps). They probably 'pop' into place.

The back seats (in my 2016 Longhorn 3500) unlatch & tilt forward once the base mounting bolts are loosened.

I see no need to remove the bed or the back seats to replace the two plastic vents behind the rear seat-backs.

Ordinarily, I would not do all of that.

My floor is soaking wet, and I need it to dry out because it smells funny.

I may take the whole darn thing out and if the water went forward of the front seats as well.

I have had the front seats out before, and it wasn't too bad.

I always said I would do it if I ever had an excuse to put some sound dampener in the truck and re-run some of my speaker wirings.

Well, LOL, I have my excuse now!

On a serious note, the thought of water beneath the carpeting is bothering me a lot.

    Yep.

Water went all the way to the front and soaked the entire underside of the carpeting.

Going to do a few other things while I have it out drying and getting the mold off.

You can’t see it, but there is a film of water covering the entire surface.

Man, it sucks you are going through this, but I love the approach.

Much better to pull everything out and disinfect the carpet and padding as well.

Hopefully, you caught it soon enough that the mold & mildew haven't grown deep into the carpet padding.

After a windshield replacement, we had a water leak issue with the wife's 4runner, and they couldn't get the smell out.

I ended up getting a completely new carpet.

On a side note, add some sound deadener to the cab while it's all open, especially the back wall and the front floorboards up near the dash.

I did this in my '12, and it made a vast improvement.

I hope all goes well, and keep us posted.
