    3.42 - 3.73 Gearing?

Anyone ever swaps 3.42’s out for 3.73 on a 4th Gen.

I have a 5th Gen and have the 3.73 compared to my 15; it’s a different driving truck only difference is gears, same tires, and everything.

I am just seeing what everyone thinks.

Stock size tires and not many heavy towing would be a good upgrade over the 3.42’s.

Anything bigger than stock size tires, I’d go at least 4:10s.

    They are 295/65/20 tires.

Same that I put on the 21, and it made no change on it besides 200 rpm in 6th.

3.73’s would put you back around stock gearing.

    Yeah, that’s what I figured.

I can’t believe how different the two drive.

They are identical otherwise, just different gears.

Both Aisin and same tires one has 3.42, the other is 3.73, and the 21 seems to pull harder than my old one.

So I wondered what else I could do.

    5th Gens are different animals.

With the same fuel and turbo upgrades, they make more power than a 4th Gen would.

If you want noticeable, I will go 4.10 gears.

You’ll get better take off it will stay In the power band better and won’t kill your fuel mileage over 70mph.

You said everything was the same except gearing.

So both trucks have the same upgrades?

Pretty much the 4th Gen has 50% overs and a modified pump.

With just a stealth 67 turbo and the 5th Gen has the turbo and 30% on a stock pump

Alot of $ for such a minor change!

On 35's if you run empty all the time, do 4.10

If you work it and use it as a truck, go 4.56.

    08 r2500 quad cab 4x4 - Ugly Betty
Deleted, AFE , 5" strait pipe , DRD Tuned
68RFE, bonded, pressure kit , Drum, Chanel plate, ultra tight tripple
Carli 2.5" King Shocks, Full Deaver rear
    F/R 4340 shafts, locked up, Freespin, 4.10's
    17" Icon Rebound Pros w/ 37" Baja Pro's
IronCross bumpers F/R, 12k winch, BedSlide, Canopy , etc.
