Odd Heating Issue - 2015 RAM 2500 Tradesman

    Hi all,

    2015 RAM 2500 Tradesman ~220k, and I bought it with 172k.

Ever since I've owned it, the heat just never got warm enough in the winter.

NC winters aren't that bad, so I haven't worried about it too much.

But, I got sick of it and decided to try and fix it.

I discovered this morning that the passenger's side vents (dash and floor) are blowing nice and hot, but the ones on my side of the truck are cold.

This would make sense to me if I had dual-zone controls, but I don't.

I think that, since the truck has a dual-zone climate control option, they built it with two air mix motors but just "wired them together" for the single control trucks.

Anyone out there experienced this before and know what part(s) I need to go after?

    Thanks.

It sounds like you have a blend door that’s not working correctly.

I had the same issues on an old power stock years ago.

I changed the blend door motor, and it worked fine.

    Yup makes perfect sense.

Now, I'm trying to figure out how it's up to know what parts of having on hand when I tear it apart.

It looks like it's contained in the distribution housing.

Furthermore, the distribution housing appears to have two outlets, which makes sense with the problem I'm I'm.

The good news is that the parts aaren'ttoo expensive.

The bad news is that it's the blend door rather than just the actuatorI'llll have to buy the entire housing.

Either way, thanks for the reply.

    I appreciate your help.

Heater core is likely clogged on the bottom rows.

Cummins leaves an excessive amount of casting sand in the block and it ends up clogging the heater core.

If you remove the heater hoses and flush it you can normally get alittle better heat out of it.

I’ll add that I haven’t seen a single blend door issue on the 14 up trucks.

I work on these trucks all day, every day.

You can probably rule out a blend door or actuator issue because your truck doesn't have different driver/passenger side controls.

Clogged heater cores are super standard on these trucks.

If the heater core is partially clogged, you can sometimes feel temperature differences between the vents.

Try feeling for a temperature difference at the heater hoses where they go into the firewall under the hood.
