Grid Heater Delete And Remote Start?

Hello, do you lose the remote start if you delete the grid heater?

I'm trying to find out since I want to delete it but don't want to lose the remote start.

If you use the remote with the grid heater disconnected and ambient temperatures are cold, you will most likely throw a P2609 code.

As you are probably aware, any trouble code will not allow remote starting.

The workaround is to manually start and not allow the heater cycle to be performed.

Grid Heater Delete And Remote Start?

What about if I get it tuned?

Can a DRD tune make it possible to use the remote start?

Yes, but you must request this option when you order your tune.

Grid Heater Delete And Remote Start?

My grid heater is deleted, and I remote start almost every time I start my truck.

It never seems to throw a code though I had not tried when it was below 40 out yet.

It chugs pretty bad and smokes for about 30 seconds before the idle settles out, so I think I need to have the tune adjusted.

It doesn't do it if I use the block heater.

Not sure why you are not throwing a trouble code, unless your tuner has turned the code off.

The chugging and smoke are typical during a cold start without intake air pre-heat.

Unfortunately, additional tuning will not eliminate this issue.

HI. i deleted the grid heater on my 2016, and I have not had any problems with my remote start not working.

I am going on about a month with the grid heater deleted.

I have had a few low 20 temps so far, and the truck has started great.

On my truck, i just removed the power wire from the relay to the grid heater.

i left the relay hooked up so the computer could still command the relay to come on.

    I know it’s an old post, @Mopar65.

Can you shoot a picture of the wire to disconnect?

    Thanks.

Black solenoid wire on the passenger side battery.

It's hard to miss, and the wire traces its way back to the grid heater.

You can zip-tie it out of the way once disconnected.

Please let us know if this works for you.

My 2014 will throw the P2609 code with the grid heater feed wire disconnected if I allow the pre-heat phase to complete before starting the engine.
