    Gear Slipping

The other day I got a Gear 2 Ratio DTC, and I cleared it to see if it would come back. Shortly thereafter, clearing it came back, but I also had a Gear 4 Ratio.

Today I reflashed my ECM with a Warp Tune from DRD, and now I have a Gear 3 Ratio DTC, no 2 or 4.

Based on the fact that all of these gears are popping up(but not at the same time) as DTC's.

Is there any idea of what this might be? I was hoping that it wasn't the same gear every time pointed to an obvious answer.

    I believe I have the 68RFE transmission.

Underdrive clutch’s are applied in all those gears.

Gear ratio error codes almost always mean slipping clutch’s.

Can you give me a little more information on what this means?

I'm new to transmission workings but eager to learn.

Here is a what’s on when chart.

It shows what clutch packs are applied in each particular gear for the 68RFE.

So we see in the chart that the underdrive (ud) clutch pack is applied in all the gears you have that set codes.

It’s also applied in first gear; you don’t have a code for first, but I’m betting if you get on it hard enough, you will throw a first gear ratio error as well.

If it is truly slipping, it’s going to be the under-drive clutch.

At that point, though, it’s time for a full rebuild.

What components does a full rebuild consist of?

Assuming I have common sense/knowledge/proper tools, is this something I can do on my own with the right amount of time?

I just watched a video on transmission removal, it seems easy enough.

Figure a rebuild video on YouTube is the other half of it?

I would talk to Revmax first and see what they say and maybe give some options.

    Honestly, I’d advise against it.

These trans are picky with clutch tolerances, valves, and valve bores.

You need quite a few tools, reamers, and jigs to set them upright.

Then there are the mods we do to the pumps and valve bodies that no ones gonna tell you about that really makes the trans last and hold power.

    Re: Gear Slipping

Well, I ended up having it towed to a shop(their cost), and they asked me a handful of questions when I first called.

He asked what I did with it, how much extra power I was getting with my tune, and recommended he rebuild it with some beefier parts. He mentioned some I'd read about(I forget what they were) and said it would cost $4500 for the entire job.

Based on what I'd read, coupled with Google Reviews(4.7/5 stars with 240 reviews) and how the conversation went, I was comfortable letting them tow it.

He said they pay for it for a rebuild job, so that's a nice bonus.

Is this reasonable cost for what I assume will end up being a rebuild?

I personally would get a parts list of everything they are replacing.

You can look at the Revmax website to get a brief picture of what all they replace and upgrade for their various levels of built transmissions.

2017 2500 Laramie: DRD Juiced, 5" TBE, Invisible EGR mod, BD Iron Horn 364sxe/1.0AR, 20x10 Hostile Sprockets, 33x12.50 General Grabber A/T, HID Conversion, Reverse Level 2" Drop CSS Rear Coils

    I keep hearing Revmax.

Can someone explain more in detail what that is?
