    Wanting To Regear My Truck

I want to regear my truck to 4.11 with Eaton true trac as well, but a little worried what my RPMs will be going down the highway with 35's.

Does anybody know what I'd be sitting at going 80mph down the highway?

Re: Wanting To Regear My Truck

I played with this a lot when I was looking at regear and transmission swaps: http://www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html

Just FYI, I use the tire manufacturer revs/mile vs. just entering 35" due to variations in tire diameters.

It looks like with 07.5+ G56, 35" tires, and 4.10s; you are around 2330.

To keep it below 2000 RPMs at 80 mph, you need 3.42s.

    Do you tow often?

If not, I'd recommend stock gears, which are probably 3.42s.

I ran my stock gears on my 38" tires, and there were no real issues until I started towing a camper around, and the only issue then was hunting for gears more than normal going over passes.

I just regeared to 4.88, and I should have done 4.56. Before I ran 1150-1200 at 75 on the freeway, I got 23mpg.

    Now I'm at 1880 at 65 and 17mpg.

    It'll tow nice tho.

I don't tow too much. Mainly just my muscle car.

I feel like my truck is a little lazy with 3.42 gears for as much power as it's putting out now.

If I do regear to 4.11, I will be going to 37" tires.

It's mainly used as a hunting rig going up and down the Rockies.

I don't really speed on the highways anymore & 80 is usually the fastest I go.

    Guess I'm getting old.

I want a better reaction off the line haha.

If you're a hunter, I'd regear to 4.11 and toss in at least a rear locker.

    Cheapish insurance.

I've been stuck a few times.

It ain't fun getting a 9000lb truck out of the mud when your buddies all drive Yotas.

    Yes.

Isn't any point in getting stuck in the middle of nowhere, haha?.

Yea, I want to throw an Eaton Truetrac in the rear with a locker upfront.

I think that would be the best way to go.

Is your truck open diff in the rear?

Factory LSD are helical gear limited slip just like Eaton true tracks.

You can probably get a factory limited-slip from someone who upgraded to an air locker for next to nothing on one of the FB off-road pages

    No, it's a limited-slip.

Guess I want to spend more money.

Not sure how I feel about a locker in the rear.

Sounds like potential trouble for daily use in town.

    TBH so far, so good.

I've put around 1000 miles on the gears with the Detroit locker in the back, 400 of it towing my travel trailer, and it's only popped or clicked or whatever people say it does, maybe four times.

I didn't do it once towing (around 8k, with our stuff and dogs).

The two times it popped surprised me because I'd never heard it before, but now that I know what it is, I'll be okay with it.

I never even knew it was there while towing.

    Just my .02

    Sounds promising.

I still got a little time to decide.

    I mean, I'd definitely like a locker.

I don't really have experience with one & have heard they can get chewed up daily driving in town.
