Good evening, I've got high hopes for this group/family!
I have a 2008 Ford 6.4L that decided to eat its crank while my family was visiting and I was quoted $27k for a new engine.
Given that the truck was worth MAYBE $15k if I did A LOT of work to it, aside from the motor, I decided it was a lost cause, soon to be parted out.
Tow mirrors, running boards, LED lights going to the wife's Excursion, and any other parts I deem interchangeable, and then the old Ford is getting sent down the road to whoever wants what's left.
My brother bought a 2014 RAM 2500, crew cab, long bed, 4x4, manual transmission brand new, and I have lusted for that truck ever since.
In a stroke of convenience or just mercy on his behalf, he decided it was for sale.
He offered his 79k mile tradesman RAM to me for $30k and I figured that was a pretty sweet deal, even with the added expense of flying to Washington and driving the truck back to Alaska through communist Canada.
I purchased an Arctic Fox 990 at the same time and brought both back.
It turned out to be a fantastic trip with my 8-year-old daughter, and I had some good memories!
Unfortunately, I was VERY disappointed in the power and fuel economy (10.6 mpg) with the admittedly very heavy camper on its back.
Now I need to learn what I can about this generation of Cummins engines and the trucks they are found in and figure out how to get rid of the parts mandated by lawyers and lefties.
Feel free to school me what's what with these machines, and thanks for adding me to the family!
Dave
