    Titan(ic) DEF Crisis Drowning Me

As a new premium member, I have the same questions.

I have now spent $3,000 DEF TANK/PUMP on repairs and told I might need $5,000 for the DEF (thing in the exhaust).

I understand the EPA has clamped down but is a DELETE/TUNE possible, and what equipment is best for my somewhat unique and now orphaned Cummins.

I like the truck otherwise but am considering trading for the dodge because I’m stuck at a dealer wanting for parts he says could take 2 months or longer to arrive!

I’m in shock, but I assume the wider distribution of the far more common Dodge would suggest better parts availability.

Maybe Dodge parts are back-ordered as well, but I don’t see any chatter suggesting that is true.

The dealer has a truck that waited 6 months for the turbo gate solenoid!

The dealer service rep even suggested I should consider trading it in for a new gas Titan!

I’m sure I’ll have PSD on all this as the truck is stuck 650 miles from home (traveling, mountain roads, pulling Airstream).

    Welcome friend!

    Glad to have ya here.

Hate that you are stuck so far from home.

I hope you can get your rig back on the road soon.

I can’t believe the parts are so backlogged?

Sorry I should have included my current code which is P20E8.

“DEF after treatment pump not able to meet expected demand.”

That code is typically a bad pump or plugged DEF injector.

What you have paid to fix this is beyond insane.

The dealers know you have to have this crap functional, so they take advantage of it.

It reminds me of what a friend showed me many years ago.

We went to a parts store to get an alternator for his Corvette.

While we were there, we asked for an alternator for the same year Camaro.

They were the same part upon inspection, but they wanted 50% more for the "Corvette" alternator.

As for the DEF/SCR after treatment system costing $5000 to replace is price gouging of epic proportions.

It is literally a specifically shaped tube made of the same metal as the exhaust pipe with an injector bung and a small piece of metal welded opposite the injector as a blast plate to help atomize the DEF.

Even if it's one unit with the DPF filter, I can't see it being anywhere near that cost to replace.

    This is beyond repulsive.

You'd be surprised at how hard it is to get parts at this time.

    Severe back orders going on.

We had a truck for almost 4 months waiting for a def pump not long ago.

Sometimes another dealer will give up the part if in stock.

Possibly ask if there are other parts available in the pipeline.

If you resolved the issue, great!

If not, please shoot me a VIN, and I can do some searching for parts availability.

    Cheers!
