Thread: 68RFE Hard All Around Shifts

    68RFE Hard All Around Shifts

I recently had a stage 2 68RFE transmission from Randy’s in Utah installed in my truck by a shop.

They said they did a relearn on it. But I’ve been experiencing hard downshifts, mainly from the 3rd-1st gear downshift; when coming to a stop, it feels like it is slamming into first, and the truck will lurch forward like the brakes aren’t even there.

As well as when I put it into drive or reverse the truck will jerk hard in whichever direction I put it into.

Is this something that can be fixed with a relearning, or is this just that nature of a built trans?

    Tuned by DRD.

467.7 FMW 2nd gen swap, 103# valve springs, extreme duty pushrods
and Randy's stage 2 extreme transmission.

Did you ask DRD what they thought?

    Thank you,

No a built trans shouldn't be beating you up like that.

What kind of converter did you have installed in the truck.

How are your line pressures during the operation of the trans?

Return to stock and reload your tunes and do the tranny relearn.

The 68's are quirky during the relearn process; if you accelerate hard one time during the relearn, they act goofy until you restart and properly relearn the trans.

When I got a new 68RFE and low stall triple disc, I had to have new trans tunes made.

I had new tunes made by DRD and loaded them.

The shop I had it done at said they did a relearn drive, but I’ll reload tunes and give it a go.

Does your triple-disc make some noise when not under load?

The initial relearn drive isn't too bad; according to Revmax, there is an additional relearn drive that takes around 200 miles and requires the truck to cool down in between drives completely.

I noticed mine got a lot better after driving it easy for about a week, just going back and forth to work.

I heard some noise the other night bouncing back at me off of a wall and wasn't sure what the noise was, but now that you bring it up, that was probably what it was.
