Exhaust Manifold Gaskets - Can Anyone Help To Confirm This Is Shot?

    Good Morning Everyone,

2 days ago, I started hearing the puff puff of what sounded like an exhaust leak.

Additionally, the exhaust brake sounds like a big air dump; no screeching or whistling, dump outside.

My first step was to make sure my couplings on turbo were tight.

I started looking for soot trails and whatnot when that didn't change anything.

Then I saw some silver gasket material on that last cylinder and what may be soot.

    Linked below are the pics.

I would appreciate any feedback from the considerable experience of the igotacummins family; after all, that's why I'm here. :P

    Thank you All!!

Update: I just tried pouring soapy water on it and saw no bubbles.

Update edit 2: I'm going to let it cool off and try the positive pressure test once it's cool.

No codes at all; thank you for replying, brother.

Is there a way to troubleshoot the actuator?

You should see trouble codes if it’s actuator-related.

Do you have the capability to monitor VGT actual vs. desired?

If you suspect an exhaust leak, I would pressure test with low-pressure air from the compressor or shop vac exhaust in the tailpipe, then chase down with soapy water.

I would think you are looking for a large leak, or you would hear a high-pitched squeal.

Is it normal for the boost on MM3 to show a negative boost at idle?

I'm about to go to the store and see what it is driving

A normal pull up to 2000 rpm from a stop to 50 didn't exceed 7.5 lbs.

Could this be a boost leak?

    No, it isn’t normal.

Have you emailed DRD to see what he thinks?

I noticed your signature that it’s tuned by DRD.

    @DRD

I'll try a tag, and I'll send an email also.

Yes, quite possible you have a boost leak.

Ray got back to me last night. He said the 10-12 is normal to read negative at idle. Also didn't think anything I've mentioned is clear indicator of boost leak.

I'm going to do positive pressure test through the tailpipe this morning and see if I can find anything.
