    68RFE Relearn Process

Can anyone explain how to do a relearn on a 68RFE?

Having a cat 3 installed and want to make sure it is done correctly.

It's rather simple, or at least was for me when I did mine after a VB install.

I used the Snap-On scan tool.

All you do is plug it into the OBD II port and scroll through the scanner until you find the transmission quick learn option.

The truck has to be running with your foot on the brake.

Once you start the quick learn, the scanner will tell you when to shift to D, N, P, D, etc.

You'll feel movement, but it's normal.

Mine took all of about 1 minute.

    Super easy.

Then I made sure not to exceed 30% throttle and let the truck shift 1-6 and back down multiple times for about 500 miles because of the new VB.

    I have had zero issues.

Where did you get the Snap-on tool?

So I have fried OD and am starting to get slippage in 2/3 and 3/4 shifting.

I've taken it to a local shop and was quoted $7200 for a rebuild.

Is it feasible to buy, say, an ATS or SunCoast Stage 2 trans and put it in me?

Then use a scan tool to do a quick "re-learn" on the new transmission?

Or would you recommend a local shop do the rebuild and reprogramming?

Props to recommended shops near Upstate SC to do transmission work.

I haven't heard good things about parts that come in purple.

I would get one from revmax.

They are based out of NC.

$7200 bucks you could get a revmax good for almost 800 horse.

Same install process as the others.

I’m fortunate enough to have a buddy who works at a shop, and he let me borrow it; otherwise, I would have likely bought one, and they’re not the cheapest.

Do you happen to know the model name or number and what software update?

You normally get better value from the local guys.

    What’s in their build?

For $7200, you should be getting a fully built trans comparable to Revmax 700 or 850.

    Not entirely.

I’m pretty sure it was the SOLUS model, but not certain about the software update.

    Either 19.4 or 20.1.
