I've read from various resources that ATF+4 should NOT be used in the G56 Transmissions when running a modified engine.
Is there any merit to this?

ATF is garbage in the G56, even in stock form.
That said, I use Amsoil MTG 75W-90 in mine with good results.
Long as whatever you use isn't ATF and is GL-4 rated, you're good to go.

Thanks for the advice.
Do you know why that is?
ATF+4 isn't thick enough or what?

Spot on.
ATF is way too thin.

Mobil Delvac 1 synthetic transmission fluid SAE 50.
I bought a 5 gal pail.
Roll-over noise is barely noticeable.
A bit stiff when shifting at first if the outside temp is cold but smooths out once the trans warms.
I could immediately notice a difference, though, after switching from ATF4 to the SAE 50.
Amsoil 75-90 GL4 transmission fluid.

I have used Redline MT90 in the past, and it is some good stuff for noisy or stiff trannys.

Any experience with Amsoil Long-Life Synthetic SAE 50 trans lube?
I put some Ravenol fluid in a 4runner last year.
I was looking at Ravenol for BW 44-46, and their BW 44 Transfer Fluid is specified compatible.
