    1995 Dodge RAM 3500 5.9L Cummins - My Journal

    Hi there folks.

I just intro’d myself up in the intro section and am starting this thread to use all the help I can get.

    BTW my name is Marc.

I just purchased a ‘95 3500 5.9 and will be documenting my work on it to learn as much as I can from you good people.

    The truck has excellent bones.

There is no frame rust, the engine is fairly clean, the body is fantastic, but the interior could use a little help.

It’s just a 25-year-old truck, so obviously, the interior gets a bit worn, but still, I can’t complain at all; it’s a nice truck.

The one area the previous owner was a little shy on was wiring.

There are a few things that need cleaning up.

So the first day, I washed the truck and got busy working under the dash and the engine room to get things back to stock.

Ah, I see I can’t upload enough pictures to show everything, so I’ll submit this and try to get it done in another entry.

Let’s see if I can add some more pics now.

Nope, it won’t let me upload.

I’m guessing I have to buy a better membership to get more space.

Hey Marc, that’s sure is a clean rig.

    I use to have a 1998.5 4x4, 12 Valve with a manual transmission dually.

I wish I never got rid of it.

Unfortunately, rust ate through the cab mounts, bottom doors, and fenders.

Yeah, I can’t take much credit for it just yet, except cleaning it and getting some wiring fixed.

That’s a bummer about the rust on your old rig. I’m going to get right after that on my undercarriage.

Some surface spots need to be addressed.

Now that I’ve upped my membership, I can show some more pics.

    It's funny about people.

This gent was good at keeping this truck in good shape, but his wiring leaves a bit to be desired.

I thought you guys might get a kick out of the wooden switch panel bracket.

And then just shoving the extra light wire into a space on the inner fender.

The last pic is with the section all cleaned up and wires spliced back into themselves instead of running other systems.

    Still a ways to go.

    Still fixing electrical problems.

    Windows wouldn’t roll down.

The answer was in a problem I saw the first day of wire fixing.

There was an exposed end behind the fuse box.

Tracing the circuit, it was indeed the windows.

It was spliced together with the backup lights.

This is correct from what I can tell so far, but why was this circuit messed with?

The window problem ended up being a cold joint in putting the wires back together.

For some reason, the PO used glue to “solder” the wires back together, but hey, at least he used shrink wrap around the joint.

So I soldered everything back together, and the windows work as well as backups.

Also had to replace the passenger side door latch.

    Man, those babies are expensive.

Been cleaning the engine room as well as the frame and running gear.

Unfortunately, this guy was doing some concrete work, and the underside is a mess, but I’m getting it little by little.

‘We’ll get there, and it will be great.

    Here’s the joint.

I think I’ve got the wiring cleaned up. Nice to have everything working.

Been cleaning the undercarriage in separate areas at a time because it’s just too caked on to tackle it all at once.

Also, cleaning the engine room getting ready to see if the KDP has been done or not.

Lots of elbow grease is getting good results.

BTW that nice BD exhaust manifold is looking sweet!

    The truck is awesome.

I just made 3 trips to x country hauling a household in a 24 ft. enclosed car trailer for a move to Tennessee from Calif.

    The truck is flawless.
