    Steering Pulsing While Turning

So ever since I got the truck (in stock format), it has had this pulsing when I turn.

I sent it to the dealer yesterday for diagnostics, and the service tech says he can’t figure out why it’s happening, but two guys have confirmed that it’s happening.

It’s most noticeable on highway turns and is not something I can tolerate.

The tech doesn’t think a dual stabilizer will fix the issue, and I’m waiting to hear what the day-two determination will be.

Does anyone have any insight on this?

The u-joints are tight, tires balanced, alignment is fresh, and ball joints are brand new.

Also, I had the issue before any of those above things were done.. thanks for any help
    -Jake

    Maybe the high-pressure steering hose.

Jack it up in 4wd, let one side spin and then the other to determine if it is in or in which side of the driveline.

I had a u joint too tight as installed (not by me) with a needle bearing laid up in the cup.

This can cause a "stiff" feeling.

    The old Ford.

Does it feel like it's in 4wd?

There's a solenoid on the front axle on the passenger side that engages a sliding gear.

The gear should be towards the passenger side to be in "neutral" to not engage.

It should be 4 nuts and 4 studs to pop off that actuator ( you'll lose a small amount of oil ).

I'd check to make sure that the actuator isn't stuck in the engaged position.

I had a similar issue on my 2010 6 months ago.

I checked everything and had it looked when jacked and tires off for rotation, found nothing.

My mileage was 170k, so I decided to start small since I couldn't 'see' anything and did a complete flush and rinse of the PS system, re-serviced it, and the problem went away been good since.

    Great luck Sir

I would also try rotating the tires.

If you have another set available, try those to see if it moves or goes away.

I had a 2011 that did this to me.

Spent big $$$ on front-end parts and plenty of time.

Changed the tires and all fixed.

This sounds like a good idea for me to try.

The 60k on the truck is definitely hard miles, so there could be some stuff floating around in there.

The dealer would have found any more obvious issues.

Another day at the dealer, they are now “confident” that it’s the front axle U-joints.

I will be replacing them after vacation and will give you all an update!

Well, it wasn’t the U-joints, and the dealership got me for $250 for the two hours of labor they spent on my improper diagnosis.

I spent 8 hrs and busted 6 knuckles on those dang axle shafts!

I checked the steering shaft, and it seems fine.

Next up, I plan to research the track bar and see if that has anything to do with it.

Almost every one of these trucks I’ve driven does it to some degree.

The only one worked on for this issue I replaced the pump at first.

I thought the relief valve was causing a pressure drop.

    That didn’t fix it.

I had hooked up a pressure gauge and saw pressure build-up slightly before pulsing and dropped at the same time when it pulsed.

I ended up replacing the gearbox, and that fixed it for about 40k miles, then the pulsing came back.
