All Gauges Peg Out - But Gas Went Empty?

My son's 2004 Dodge RAM 1500 5.7L gas engine, all of the gauges pegged out, and the gas gauge went empty, then the truck cut off and would not crank back up.

No cel, but he had three relays getting hot, and he replaced the three relays.

He removed the ground cable for one hr. Then the truck cranked back up all of the gauges were ok.

Has anyone had this kind of problem?

What do we need to look for?

    Thank you for your time,
    Tommy

It would sound like a short somewhere if your 3 relays were getting hot.

Good thing he removed the ground.
