    P0740 Code?

Hi, I recently got a P0740 code and trans is going to lock up.

When I first got the code, I cleared the code and didn't come back.

While I was picking my wife up at the airport, I checked the codes even though there was light.

The truck had the same code, but it was stored.

Like I said before, it doesn't lock up.

I ordered a filter kit and pan gasket from Geno's.

Going to the dealer to get fluid today.

I read on another thread a trango kit might help, and also a solenoid rebuild kit.

We are about to sell our house to move from CA to NC, so I need to get this going fast.

If I were not to this, is it safe to drive across the country if I don't tow anything and stay off the pedal?

14 2500 stock trans tuned by Ray. I run mostly 30 hp tune—137k on the trans.

Unfortunately, I don’t have any experience with the 68RFE transmission, but I have attached the explanation of your trouble code.

Just quickly reading through, it appears your issue could be electrical in nature, and if the solenoid pack were the problem, you would have additional trouble codes.

Hopefully, someone with more knowledge will chime in.

Almost always, a worn TCC control valve bore in the pump.

    Thank you.

Is the fix a new valve body and solenoid pack?

No more than likely new pump and new tq converter.

My truck is now fixed; thank you for the help.

I love fixing things myself, but I know my limitations, so I had to take it to a local shop.

He charges $60 an hour for labor and is working as it should.

The first shop I went to want 1200 to inspect it.

Then I called the next day, and they told me I was getting the code bc a P0300 code, which I couldn't find.

I'm driving it easy until the CVI's stabilize because he also installed a shift kit and performed a relearn.

Now we won't have to pay a trucking company to haul my wife's car across the US to NC.

    Re: P0740 Code?

Were there any noticeable signs of a problem, or did you get a P0740 code?

I ask because I just got the code, too, but I don't notice a difference.

    Re: P0740 Code?

Not only was I getting the code, but I could also see that the TQ converter wasn't locking up.

On the MM3, i have torque converter slip as a monitor.

I could see that it was slipping about 200 RPM also.

The transmission was running hotter, not by a lot but enough for me to notice. I use a bypass for the trans, and that trans is one of those things I watch all the time.
