Squeak Noise While Turning - 2017 RAM 2500

    2017 RAM 2500 33k miles now.

I seem to have developed a squeak when I turn the steering wheel.

It happens when I'm stationary and moving down the road, left and right turns of the wheel.

It's more obvious at a slower speed.

I got under the truck and looked for zerk fittings if I needed to grease up U joints or something like that and did not see any.

This is my first HD truck. Anyone ever had this problem before?

See if you can get someone to turn the wheel while stationary and try to determine where the sound is coming from.

It could be from the power steering unit or belt noise.

I had my wife do that in the campground parking lot when we first heard it.

I couldn't pinpoint where it was coming from with the engine running.

It definitely sounds metallic in nature.

I was hoping it was as simple as a zerk fitting somewhere I had missed when I looked, but I will take it to the dealer to diagnose if I can't track it down.

    Still under warranty until mid-June.

    Appreciate the reply!

If it’s still under warranty, I will let them look at it before running out in June.

The only thing that we can grease on our trucks is the front driveshaft.

There is only one place you can grease, and it’s at the transfer case.

It’s supposed to be greased every 10,000 miles.

You should have a sticker under your hood explaining.

Please keep us informed what you find out, friend.

Correct if you have 4 wheel drive.

However, if you are in two-wheel drive the shaft does not rotate, so you could always try that to eliminate the possibility.

This has happened to me all too many times, but most of my squeaks were inside the cab on the steering shaft.

Please take a look as well, as sometimes it may sound like it's outside, but it's not.

    Worth a shot!

My sway bar end links were the culprit with my squeak.

    Thanks, everyone, for the replies!

I'm making an appointment this morning and will update you with a resolution when I can get it in.

Weight reduction is here next week, so I should probably try to get it in before then.

Re: Squeak Noise While Turning - 2017 RAM 2500

    Quick update.

Dealer determined that the noise is coming from the Tie Rod assembly.

    Part number (68369910AC)

The quote to repair was $580.80 in parts, $117.87 in labor. Total: $748.81

Covered under warranty, but no parts availability for 15+ days.

I Will have to bring it back when the parts come in.

I would source the tie rod and install it myself if it were outside of the warranty.

It looks to be about $320 for the OEM part elsewhere.

Hopefully, this helps somebody else if they run across this issue in the future.
