2021 RAM 2500 Limited Uconnect / Radio Problems / Static / Amp Location

    Hey everyone.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

I ordered my 2021 2500 limited back in Jan and finally picked it up on April 9th.

    The truck is fantastic.

However, on day two and less than 80 miles, I get in the truck to hear an awful distortion/cracking/static sound from the radio, regardless of source (XM, Radio, Bluetooth, Phone).

    The speakers sound blown.

It has the Harman Kardon speaker system if it matters.

That evening I get in the truck again, and the problem is gone.

    Works great.

Since then, I have had the problem about eight more times.

It seems to happen when I remote start the truck with the keyFOB.

To spend so much money on my dream truck and have this issue at less than a week old is frustrating.

I called the dealership, and of course, they never are any help, especially over the phone.

They want me to bring it in and spend two days diagnosing it.

Odds are they do not have the part, and I have heard horror stories of guys with other radio issues having to go round-and-round with the dealership.

First - has anyone else had this issue?

Second, I suspect the problem is the actual audio amplifier.

I have many years of experience in the music business, and it sounds like a lousy amp to me.

Does anyone know where the amp is located on these trucks?

It is not under the front seat like google suggests.

I assume it is now in the dash or, worse, behind the screen.

I have NOT unplugged the battery and plugged back in after several hours like some people had suggested when I searched google.

The problem I am hearing does not appear to be a software-based problem that can be fixed with a reboot - it sounds more like a physical part failing (Amp).

    Thoughts?

    Amp location?

    Did anyone experience this?

    Thanks!

Man, that sucks with a brand new truck.

    Congratulations btw.

I haven’t got a clue where the amp is in these trucks.

I had a similar issue on my 2019 Dodge Charger Scat Pack, and the dealership replaced the whole radio, and the issue went away.

Maybe the amp is built into the radio?

Please keep us informed what you find out, friend.

    Thanks.

The truck is a beauty other than this problem.

If there is a hint of good news, I found the amp.

It's under the drivers' dash, mounted vertically along the steering column.

I am trying to find the amp, but the part number is not showing up as available yet.

It sounds crazy, but I would rather spend $4or$500 and replace the amp myself instead of taking the truck to the dealer and dealing with all of their BS.

I will keep you all updated.

I did unplug the amp and let it sit for the night, even though I have no faith that doing so will fix anything.

    Glad you found the amp.

Intermittent audio issues are a pain to troubleshoot, and far too many dealership techs can't seem to diagnose any problem unless there is a CEL code to read and a TSB to follow.

Another culprit could be the active noise cancellation system.

It can be very intrusive at times.

Mine got so bad that I bought a bypass harness to defeat the entire ANC system.

Re: 2021 RAM 2500 Limited Uconnect / Radio Problems / Static / Amp Location

So, to confirm my fears, leaving the amp completely unplugged (all three connections) for 12 hours did not solve the issue.

I called the dealer parts department to look up the part number.

    It is nonexistent.

Parts guy was scratching his head.

He said the same thing "Bring it in to diagnose the problem."

I stumped him when I told him - "If you cannot even find or order the part, hell it is not even in your system, then what good does it do if I bring in the truck for diagnoses?

You cannot even order replacement parts."

So here I am with a brand new truck with an annoying radio issue.

When I was diagnosing my ANC issue I found that the feedback sound was only when Truck was running/driving and the windows up.

Radio on and truck in ACC = no noise and truck running with windows down = no noise.

This lead me to the ANC being the culprit. If nothing else, bring it in and let them replace the radio and see if it helps like it did for @watersupply189.

I had a similar issue on my 16.

    Just a few times.

    Didn't come back, though.

I found recently that if I hold in both knob centers for 20 seconds or so, the radio performs a soft reset and complete reboot.

For mine, it is mute and select/browse.
