Head Gasket - Head Stud Question

I just joined a few weeks ago.

A lot of knowledge here, thank you all.

'17 Cummins, 48k miles, going to install head studs.

I searched the forum and didn't see what I was looking for, so point it out if it's already been discussed.

Do I need to replace the head gasket?

I was honestly not looking forward to the exhaust manifold bolt clips, so I was planning on doing a one-for-one swap of the studs without removing all the bonus bits.

    Thought?

    Thanks for the advice?

I'm sure someone else will chime in but from my experience on gas and diesel.

    Stainless cast aluminum etc.

    Do not remove head.

Follow all instruction to a t but do not remove head.

    One bolt at a time.

As metal heats and expands it distorts.

    Period no way around it.

8f you release enough pressure from the head for it to release to its relaxed position I will require resurfacing before a new head gasket.

    Milling.

There is no need for this unless the head gasket is leaking or you need to remove it for another reason.

If you follow the torquing sequence it will not be required.

    @Cdiesel288

I haven't done my Dodge yet, but helped others.

If the gasket is good, no leaks, a one for one swap out is the right way to go.

As mentioned, proper torque is important.

Re: Head gasket & head stud question

That's what I figured. The thought crossed my mind about getting o-rings and a head gasket, but I don't plan on pushing more that 50-55lbs of boost. I have a raceme, 5" TBE, and things are missing from it, but I also don't drive like an a-hole. Gotta get 4.10s, and go through the pain and absolute headache of beefing up the 68RFE first
