    Fuel Filter Delete - 2020 Cummins 6.7L

    Hello,

    2020 2500 Tradesman.

    I'm going to be putting on a FASS kit in the not too distant future.

    Figure the pump, and a Beans sump kit will have me running smooth.

    I want to plumb it into the existing lines, not bypass all the way to the injection pump.

    Primarily because I don't want my water in the fuel light to come on.

    I did some light searching but couldn't find anything for OEM filter delete post-2018.

    Is this not a thing for these rides?

    Am I looking to solve a problem that doesn't exist?

    I want to delete the OEM fuel filter and the water separator.

    Unless, of course, there is a reason to maintain either with the FASS kit.

    I understand that the FASS filters exceed OEM filtration requirements, so there isn't a need to keep the OEM as well.

    So you can by fleece performance fuel filter block off and it will work on the new trucks.

    Fleece doesn’t advertise it works on 19 up trucks cause they haven’t tried it.

    It fits.

    Just keep in mind you have a finicky CP4.

    Some guys would say the more filters leading to that, the better.

    I'm not one of those guys.

    I have a Duramax with the CP4, and yes I deleted the factory filter, and run an airdog.

    I change filters on the airdog every 5k miles. 40k+ miles like this.

    Only thing I think I'd do different in your case, is keep the rear frame mounted water separator.

    The CP4 is why I want to run the FASS.

    Sure, keeping the air at the injectors to a minimum is excellent too, but I want to give the CP4 the best chance I can.

    Opti-lube every fill-up combined with the FASS should minimize the risk of failure.

    What I've gathered from the CP4 is that they're little sissies and don't like anything less than perfection.

    Designed for low sulfur fuel, but alphabet doing what alphabet does, forced a change to ULSF, and the CP4 was the best choice at the time.

    It just requires laboratory perfect fuel not to eat itself up.

    I'm not against adding the FASS to the current system if there's a benefit.

    I don't see the need for super redundancy just for the sake of redundancy.

    There comes the point of infiltration that too much is too much.

    Not that it's too much filtration; it's just too much resistance to flow.

    Maybe I'll go with the 165 and plumb it inline with the current system.

    That should be enough supply to not have issues with four filters while maintaining OEM sensors in the OEM location.

    I hear ya, and the CP4 is why I have an AirDog 165.

    Everyone has a theory as to why the CP4 is junk.

    I think it's lack of lubrication in ulsf, and they hate water obviously.

    I had no problems with an 08 cummins getting fuel through an aftermarket frame mounted filter and water sep, plus the factory filter, in an otherwise all stock fuel system.

    So I think the FASS or an AirDog lift pump, especially with a sump, will push the fuel easy enough through all the filters.

    But I agree with you, does it need to?

    We have had several customers say the fuel filter deletes work on 19-20 trucks but we've never seen it in person.

    The CP4's are just eating themselves kinda like the early LB7 injectors. Factory filtration on 13+ trucks is really good, I just hate they went to a rear cartridge filter instead of the spin-on type seen on 13-18 trucks.

    The Fleece pump is very easy to install if you were wanting to keep the factory filters or keep the rear and put an auxiliary front filter kit with a spin on filter.

    Regardless of which way you go, FCA will 99% most likely deny any warranty claims if you have a cp4 failure with an aftermarket fuel system.

    If you're not worried the cp4 and not worried about your warranty I cannot recommend a CP3 conversion kit enough, it'll save you an astronomical amount of money compared to a CP4 failure that shoots metal shavings through your entire fuel system.

    I'll include a pic on what happens when a CP4 fails.
