Cummins Whistle - Hiss Too Loud At Idle

Hi, all 2018 Cummins deleted with MM3.

Did all the work myself.

I thought the pretty loud whistle/hiss was because it was straight piped, so I bought a muffler.

Still too loud, so I bought a much more restrictive muffler and fired it up last night, and it’s quieter except for the whistling hiss is the same.

Can I smooth this out and quiet it up somehow, maybe with my tune?

If it’s cold outside your gonna get that whistle especially when it goes to high idle until it warms up.

That’s the nature of the beast with a deleted truck.

Hey one other thing I notice is I can hear the turbo spooling up and down periodically as it sits there idling.

Is that normal?

Someone said it could be a turbo brake?

Leaving the exhaust brake on will help it warm up faster.

Now hearing it spool up and down while idling is hard to say.

Who tuned your truck?

It was tuned by fast Tommy’s diesel race kits and now I can’t get ahold of them for help.

Darn it.

It could be tuned to have a rumble idle instead of hiss.

It is normal for it to go back and forth at idle and does that even in factory form you just can't hear it in factory form.

The disadvantage of a more open VGT at idle is higher egt's at idle.

Sort of yes, but I'm not sure you'd like a more open VGT at idle.

Especially if it gets cold in your area.

There is some adjustments that can be made by good tuners.
