Any one know if the 550 will actually hold more power than the rated 550hp?
Similar to saying the 700 will be good for 700-800 ish?

I wouldn’t push the 550 much past 550hp they add a couple clutch’s to the stock overdrive and input drum.
The factory drum just won’t hold much more power.
On a maxed out delete tune usually around 500hp I usually recommend at very least a sonnax overdrive drum with a 16 clutch set up.
Revmax 550 uses 14 in overdrive.

Yea kinda what I was thinking.
Just before I deleted and deleted my warranty I took it to a good Factory Cummins tech and did a trans service he took pictures and was very surprised how clean my oil pan was.
When I say I baby the truck I really do LOL.
Anyway now that it’s deleted I keep it on tune 2 even for towing my light camper which was recommended and just want to beef up the trans so I think I’m gonna to save up and do the valve body upgrade from RevMax, and ZeroStat probably in next few weeks before we head to key west with the Airstream.
Anyone else in the Charlotte NC area?

It's certainly makes sense to just go with a built unit and it appears most have a favorable opinion of Revmax to be sure, my question is anyone aware of any transmission builders in the Southern CA market where my truck currently sits that could take a Revmax kit and do it justice?
I say that knowing that tuning is important as well.
I was just seeing if it were possible to save money in the process.
I've spoken to a couple shops that came recommended but they don't wish to touch a 68RFE, I'm sure no ones heard that before.
Well, I also talked to CAConversions, they have a turn-key Allison upgrade now.
Here are the parts break down they sent me and the cost.

Serious coin but a set up most have wished for no doubt.
Well honestly my wonder is a built 68RFE from RevMax or a Factory Allison?

Take a look at this from ATS.

A built 68RFE will cost less than a Allison swap built to the same hp rating.
I’ve rebuilt tons of Allisons 1000s over the years they aren’t much better than 68s when you start adding power no transmission is.
I haven’t kept up with Allison swaps have they found a way to keep exhaust brake function with Allison swap yet?
There have been massive developments in the 68RFE in the last two years.
There’s really no need to swap anything else in anymore unless your planning on making more than 1200hp.

I'm from Kansas and was In the same boat as you, I really just wanted to buy a revmax or Suncoast rebuild kit but not a single place would install them.
I even called a couple diesel shops like 2-3 hours away so they all said they just remove and replace so I just bought a built transmission.
