    Hot When Towing 6% Grades!

    Here’s my issue.

My truck runs great until I’m pulling my 24k lbs 5th wheel up 6% grades at 60mph then the temp shoots to 230* not sure if it will go higher but that’s when I back out of it.

I will mention my egts never go over 1250* here’s my break down my trucks a bit modified.

I stay in the tow tune from DRD.

Also I am not losing coolant.

BD Rumble B 364.5 second gen swap
    Mishimoto radiator and inner cooler
Industrial Injection Performance fire ring head and 50hp injectors
    Banks monster intake
    ARP 625+ studs
4” exhaust with inline BD exhaust brake

    Any thoughts will be appreciated

That doesn't really sound out of this world at that weight, speed, and grade, especially if you're keeping EGTs down.

I'm no towing expert, but I don't think it's a mystery as to why the temps are climbing under those conditions.

I agree with above, that’s only 30* higher than normal operating temp @ 200*F.

Maybe use a lower temp thermostat?

What are your trans temps like?

Agree also providing you don’t go too much higher.

Did you go from a dual radiator setup to single?

Is the cooling fan kicking in and working correctly?

Cooling fan is working properly. Truck is a single radiator from factory and I’m running 180* thermostat. Trans temp was 167* truck has the Aisin with 4.10 rear but I will say with that hard of a pull my intake temp does spike to 180* thinking of water/meth to bring down that temperature but I’m undecided. Also boost is about 40 psi which is lower than before I put my ported head on I would push 55psi so it’s definitely flowing better.

Have you tried foaming and cleaning your radiator?

Water meth will help with temps and give you a bump in power as well if you run blue washer fluid or something more concentrated.

Shoot me a PM if you’d like pricing on a kit. Snow and AEM have some nice ones for our trucks

It’s new I put it in about 3k miles ago when I did my cylinder head and did a coolant flush at that time.

Mine used to run a little warm when towing 10-15k up hills.

I have a similar set up as yours.

I put in the fleece coolant bypass now it doesn’t get over 197 and usually hovers around 187.
