Re: Cooper Tire AT3 XLT Installed

So I drive up to diamond lake oregon and through Bend oregon.

The tires did great in packed snow and slush.

I had a 8 mile section of 4 to 6 inch packed snow.

Didn't really have any bad ice.

The tires in the rear would break loose very little.

These are much safer than the ridge grapplers I had before in snow.

I did not need to use 4wd

When I was in Bend I drove to look at Thuen fabrications new shop.

Closed on Saturday but I did run into Don, and had a quick chat.

Everytime I have ever spoke to him from years ago to present, always a genuine guy.

His shop looks amazing. I didn't see the inside.

Can't wait for COVID to end so shop's like Thuren can get back to full speed making even more great parts.

    More good stuff to come.

I actually replaced the stock garbage Firestones with these a little over a year ago - The ride on the Firestones was horrendous, stiff as can be, noisy, traction was not great either although they were new - I have the 20" wheels so size was 285/60/20 or about 33.5" tall - have about 8k on them now and rotated once -

I upsized an inch to 285/65/20 (34.5" or what most 35" tires shake out to be in actual height)

My wife noticed a HUGE difference right away (and this says a lot) in ride quality alone, on a stock suspension truck - this was before Thuren level and Fox shocks - It was quieter, and smoother riding all around - the tires look phenomenal and I am very happy with them - much more affordable than the Toyo's were, and I was unsure about the Ridge Grapplers as I've heard they can be loud in comparison as they are almost an MT -

On the Firestones I took the fronts down to 55 psi and rears to 45 psi and still incredibly rough riding - the Coopers I run 50 psi rear, and the same 65psi front - and it's a huge difference in ride quality - two thumbs way up for the AT3 XLT and I would recommend them to anyone for good all around use of the truck - I sold my nearly new Firestones for a few bucks but I'm sure happy that I didn't waste time and miles "waiting for them to wear out" as it made a huge difference in enjoyability of the truck -

How do you like them almost 2 months later?

It's a toss up between these and Falken Wild peaks for me.

I really like my Falken Wildpeaks.

Smooth riding excellent in the snow and no road hum.

I almost have 25k on them, and they are almost halfway down in the tread.

I should get around 50k, hopefully.

    Been great.

They do like rocks but expected with an AT.

I'm about to do a tire rotation soon.

I've only put about 3000k miles so far.

When I rotate, I'll put a comment on the tread depth.

I did do a few weekends of driving sand and river rocks and not chipping or cuts.

Sidewalls look great even tho my lady has curved a few times and my 15 yr old son with driving practice.

I plan on getting the same tires, the Cooper AT3 35x12.5x18.

I know here in the USA, Pepboys buy two get two free for Black Friday/Cyber Monday.

If they run that sale again, I'll pick them up a little earlier than later.

UPDATE: AUG 2023, 30k mile update on tires

The tires have all worn within 1/32nd, even across all of them.

I did get a good slice on the outer shoulder lugs, but it did not puncture.

I have roughly 3three32nds remaining, and I'm getting close to the wear bar indicators

I just changed the oil, and I thank sometimes

In this oil change, I will talk to cooper tires about the mileage wear warranty.

Overall very pleased with the tire, but no way it's getting 60k

If the warranty with Cooper is smooth and not a hassle, I have to stay w Cooper to get compensation.

I will look at the 35/12 5/18 in this exact tire.

If the Cooper wear warranty is a cluster headache, I will look at Falken tires.

These tires were purchased Jan 2021 and mow Aug 2023 with 30k miles on them.

I can post some pics if anyone wants to see the tread.

    Thanks

Re: Cooper Tire AT3 XLT Installed

So, in my last update, I did, and I had 5 to 6 32nds left. I don't know why I typed that, but here I am at four 32nds, and I have got squirrelly a few times with frost fog and 30-degree weather.

I feel unsafe to go in the snow with things like this, and I have 34k miles.

Cooper Tires will not do a tread warranty until I'm at two 32nd.

I haven't checked tire prices in healthy three years, and wow.

So, ideas on my following tires.

I want close to an actual 35 8-inch tire, an AT, or a hybrid.

I will not use Nitto Terra crap. I have tried those in the past, and they were horrible in the snow.

So I'm happy with these but will also consider them.

    Falken Wildpeak AT.

    Falken Wildpeak RT'S

I have never had good luck with BFG in a diesel.

So, thoughts on newer tires or any tire you are pleased with?

Treadwear and rain ice dirt road traction?

I have been running Falken AT3s.

    They are snow-rated as well.

I’m in northern VA, so we don’t get a lot of snow, but from my experience, they perform well in it.

I have put about 40k on them and still have 14/32 left.

There is also minimal road noise from the tires.

I like these tires and will go with them again when the time comes.
